I hate staying in hotels anymore because they're usually expensive and rarely up to minimum standards. My wife and I had some business in the Kilmarnock, Va. area and decided to check out the Comfort Inn in Gloucester, VA., only 30 minutes away. It was significantly less expensive than the Holiday Inn Express in Kilmarnock and didn't have the negative reviews. Even so, our expectations were low. We were wonderfully surprised! The hotel appears new and is well maintained. The check-in went smooth with outstanding customer service. The lobby area was bright and clean (as was the entire hotel). The room was very nice with absolutely no discrepancies noted. We had one maintenance call (our fault) and they responded promptly and cheerfully. Free continental breakfast and papers in the morning was pretty much standard but very nice. The exceptional cleaniness made everything nicer! We liked the pool area just outside the lobby/lounge area, which made it feel safer for the wife. The hotel is somewhat hidden behind a Wendy's off a very busy four-lane but fairly simple to enter/leave after figuring out the layout. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. Obviously, this hotel is under good management with a superior staff. We will stay here whenever visiting the Northern Neck or Middle Peninsula and would definitely recommend to our friends!
