“Very interesting place to stay.”

Contemporary design hotel. Different, yet cool. Shops around the area are great. Lots of shopping close by. Parking deck convenient.Air conditioning in our room didn't work well.

I stayed at the Aloft Richmond West in May for a quick girls' getaway. As a travel professional, I try to experience new brands when I travel, and this was my first stay in an Aloft hotel. The location is in the center of a new mixed-use development in close proximity to the Short Pump shopping district. Since shopping was on the top of our list, this hotel's location seemed to fit the bill.

Parking was no problem in the garage attached to the hotel. It was a bit odd that the entrance to the lobby is actually up the elevator (or stairs if you are so inclined), but this also added to the intrigue! When the elevator doors opened, we arrived at the "lobby," which is really a circular hub where friendly folks check you in. Off from the hub are several "spaces" with couches and chairs that invite private conversation in the "lobby" or congenial "chatter" in the bar. The colors are urban chic, and the whole vibe was youthful and energetic. Off of the "lobby" is a for-purchase food bar, which had items that I hadn't expected - healthy breakfast options for the morning, and good bottled wine selection in the evening!

The rooms were not large, but for sleeping they were fine. I did not experience the "thin" walls as others have stated. I thought the layout of the bathroom was adequate with the sink basin in one area, and the toilet/shower behind a door, which made getting ready in the morning convenient for two women travelers. The closet is really a "built-in" where you hang your clothes parallel to the wall. Nice touch. The bliss bath products were a welcome surprise. I thought the "light" panel in the shower was interesting, but after testing it, I concluded that one could not see through it to the sleeping area. We had two double beds, which I thought were very comfortable and welcome after a long day of shopping. We tossed our bags in the room, poured a glass of wine, and watched a movie on the large flat-screen television.

I wished we'd had more time to explore the walkable area around the hotel. We saw lots of folks enjoying a Happy Hour on the corner, and the Whole Foods would have been a great place to pick up some treats. The hotel is clean and sharp in design. The staff was friendly and welcoming. And the surrounding area felt safe and neighborly. I loved the youthful vibe, and I look forward to spending another Girls' Getaway at the aloft Richmond West.

Amazing location, great service from front desk in reference to many things like traffic patterns we were unfamiliar with etc. Our dog was welcomed and the hotel itself is great! Very pretty .. Great economical breakfast. No room service but who needs that? It's too expensive!! Fell in love with the products in the room. Love the bliss products!! Overall enjoyed and look forward to staying at more aloft hotels!!!, and best of all it was a starwood

Stayed in a king room with our two kids (3 months old & 3 years old) Brought our own pack & play and toddler bed so did not use hotel crib. Paid a rate of $99 for a Wednesday night. Rooms are rather small and spartanly appointed but very cool and mod decor. Aloft hotels are a bit DIY, with minimal services (no bellman, room service, etc) so as long as you are cool carrying your own bags, no problem there.

Hotel is located in a new, "up-and-coming" pedestrian friendly, condo community. Lots of restaurants and shops opening nearby. A Whole Foods market is nearby so tons of take out food options too.

Only real complaint was that for a brand new hotel, the rooms are not even remotely soundproof. We could hear low talking next door before going to sleep but were awakened at 2:00am by the amorous neighbors in the the throngs of passion. Needless to say, they carried on into the wee hours of the morning and we could hear pretty much every huff and puff. So if you value quiet sleep bring earplugs or a white noise machine just to be safe.

Aloha!

Thanks for joining us at Aloft. We love having new visitors and value your feedback. Thanks for your comments - I'm glad to see that you understand the Aloft concept. Spartan cool is indeed part of the design aesthetic of the brand. Our guests do tend to be modern, self sufficient travelers. Likewise, we feature a lot of cool, open public spaces to encourage relaxation and mingling during your stay.

I apologize for the noise interruption. Generally we do not have such issues but from time to time one does find themselves with an unusually boisterous neighbor. We're certainly all about fun and romance at Aloft but not at the expense of fellow travelers. I hope that this didn't put too much of a damper on your visit and that we will have the opportunity to serve you on future visits.

This is a great stay and fun alternative every once in awhile to stuffier hotels. Designed with modern furniture and great location. You can easily walk to Whole Foods, Dave & Busters, and many other locales. Front desk service may need a bit more training but not too bad. Bar, pool, and fitness center on site.

Only con is that there are some thin walls!

Overall, I loved this hotel. The rooms were very modern and clean. The beds were comfortable. The hotel is right in the middle of a cute area where you can walk around to different shops and restaurants. My only complaint is that it is a little difficult to figure out the main entrance when you get there.

Pros: clean, modern decor, great reception area w/lots of room to hang out, small bar w/TV, lots of light, self-serve snack bar w/limited short order meals, very comfortable beds, lovely thick comforters, wide screen TV. Cons: bathroom w/sliding door=very limited privacy (don't think there was a lock and you can hear every thing if you know what I mean), shampoo/soap is eco-friendly in large self-serve container BUT shampoo dispenser did not work, hot water was not hot until 2nd person got in, pillows were a bit small (although they give you 4 per bed). Overall I'd definitely stay there again, but was a little disappointed w/bathroom. If w/friends or lover and not family, would be embarrassing.

Thank you for your kind words. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hotel and we look forward to your return. I apologize for the issue with your shampoo dispenser; I will ensure that the issue is corrected this afternoon. Likewise, I appreciate your candor regarding the bathroom door. Certainly, as is the case with much of the Aloft concept, it is a very different design than many travelers are used to. As it is a structural design element, I doubt that it is likely to change in the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, I will be sure to share your feedback with our design team. Aloft is a young brand and it's growth and evolution is fueled by comments from our frequent guests.
