“exceded expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Gainesville VA is not the culinary capitol of the world, but 8 of us stopped here on the way back home from DC. Atmosphere, very nice.. noise level .. low.. service TERRIFIC... drinks pretty durn good.. menu.. something for everyone... service for 8 was on time and perfect timing.. we tried elk, antelope, kangaroo (yes kangaroo was excellent) great for adults.. no so much for families with kids.. worth the price.. will go back

“A Truly Unique Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013 via mobile

Want a different dining experience, then go to Volcano's. Your food can be totally prepared by the chef or they bring it to you on a plate with a hot lava rock and you finish cooking it yourself. I chose the latter and thoroughly enjoyed myself. It is a bit pricey but will go again.

“Tasty but a little pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

You would never want to bring young children here because the hot stones the food is served and cooked on would be dangerous...the food tastes really good, the portions aren't huge so the prices seem a little high, but not a bad option for an occasional date night.

“Unique and Delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

You'll pay a little extra for the experience, but it's worth it. The premise is that you cook your own meat on a volcanic stone that's been heated to some extreme temperature and then delivered to your table. It's something different and a fun experience. Plus, you can be extra adventurous and try meats that you've probably never had before - elk, ostrich, boar, kangaroo. Add in the dipping sauces and its delicious and fun.

“Excellent unique dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013

We started with a cheese fondue that we shared. It came with different types of bread and fruit. It was excellent. I'm glad we shared it because the fondue appetizer was almost big enough for the main meal. For our main course,we each had a hot rock meal. My wife had the fillet with prawns and I had the pork tenderloin. The meat came to our table raw and we cooked it on very hot rocks that have been slightly salted. We sliced up the meat and it cooked very quickly on the rocks and you can cook it as long as you want. The meals came with some unique dipping sauces, like mango wasabe, apple chutney, and horseradish sauce. They were all very good with the meat. After the main course, we were quite full. But after looking at the dessert menu, I HAD to try the chocolate fondue. My wife had the molten lemon lava cake. The chocolate fondue came with pieces of cake, marsh mellows, and fruit. The chocolate was gooooood. Very smooth. My wife really enjoyed the lemon lava cake as well. We each finished off our meals with coffee. We were STUFFED (We really couldn't pass up dessert).

The service was great. Everyone was very friendly. My wife and I had a very enjoyable evening and a unique dining experience. We highly recommend this restaurant. Next time I will go for the more daring meat, like elk.
