“Perfectly adequate for a comfortable night, no frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2010

We were heading for Shenandoah National Park and the Super 8 is very convenient for that. The bed was comfortable, rooms furnished nicely; there was enough dust on the headboard to start my allergies but that was easily wiped off with a washcloth and I didn't notice any other lack. Breakfast was blah enough that we skipped it but the cost was very reasonable and we felt we got what we paid for!

My family and I stayed in the Super 8 in Front Royal on our way down the eastern portion of the USA. We had long drives either side, so we wanted somewhere to stay that was reliable, with all the usual conveniences. We got just what we wanted here, and at a good price. The reception personnel were friendly and very helpful. There was lots of parking spaces, and our room was a good size for a family of four, with excellent (and free) Wi-Fi. The continental breakfast selection was good, with lots of seating available. There is a reasonable selection of restaurants not far from the motel, which is right near the entrance to Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive. All in all, very good value.

This was a one-night stay after several nights in sweltering heat backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. Of the dog-friendly hotels, this was the least expensive one and including dog fees, for a double it still came to $87. The front desk staff was fine if a tad-bit sleezy feeling. We were asked if we minded a room on the first floor but then found that our room was right at the vending machines and the front door/lobby - not such a great place for a dog-room! Everything looked a bit worn and old. All I really needed was AC and a shower but for the price, I really thought this was below-par. I think this hotel takes advantage of the fact that there are only a few hotels in downtown Front Royal.

When it comes to Super 8, it's always a 50/50 hit or miss type of thing. Some can be absolutely atrocious, others kinda fit the purpose. The affordability is always attractive, and face it in this economy a penny saved is a penny truly earned. Front Royal is a neat little town, the room was fine. Hotel seemed relatively clean. The front desk staff was not of American descent and it wouldn't have been a problem but their English skills were lacking and the communication process was a bit difficult. Nevertheless, they were still friendly and tried to be helpful. A great frozen custard shop named Spelunkers is literally across the street. It was easy to find. Nothing about Super 8 ever jumps out and surprises you. I was looking for an affordable place to stay, this Super 8 served just fine. It wasn't exactly memorable, bed wasn't the best (bad pillows!) but still slept well and all in all, had a fine stay.

The entire property smelled like stale cigarettes. We were planning on staying 2 nights but then moved into the Quality Inn (which wasn't a whole lot better...) The only plus was it was only $10 for our dog but the room was still $80/night which I think was atrocious for the quality of the place. I would have expected about $50. Oh and there was a couple and their three children screaming literally screaming all night next to us. Who screams at their kids from 11pm-5am?!?! Although I realize this is not the properties fault still highly annoying. The breakfast is a joke.

Super 8 Motels are never my first choice, but we were on vacation and traveling with our puppy, so this was a convenient stay at a good price. The place is pretty clean, but most motels in this class need something fixed. The bedspreads were NOT clean, and should be washed on a regular basis.
The people were friendly, but then, everybody in VA is friendly! If you just want a quick bite to eat in the morning, they put out some donuts, but we like more of a breakfast. There are MANY places close by, including several fast food drive thrus.
This is also very close to the North end of the Skyline Drive, so it is a good stop. We arrived late Saturday evening and didn't want to drive the Drive in the dark. Sunday morning we were off the Skyland.
