THIS IS NO ORDINARY B&B!! IT'S VERY SPECIAL.
If you want stiff formality and matching prints on the wall go somewher else - but you don't know what you'd be missing!! This was our first stay in Virginia & our first in an American B&B so we didn't know what to expect. Innkeepers Joan & Bob are warm & welcoming and immediately made us feel at home. Our room, Kelly's Nest, was comfortable & well decorated, with good toiletries in the bathroom and home made cookies & water. There is a cosy visitors' sitting room with a fire and a bar area where we were invited to have a drink with Joan and her friends. The art on the walls is an eclectic mix & very appealing. Breakfast is legendary ( read the other reviews). Try Joan's Blueberry pancakes - the lightest I ever had. I didn't believe I could eat FOUR but I did.
Joan lent us her own book of walks and gave us advice on a wonderful day's hike to waterfalls. She advised us to do the walk in reverse, which meant us walking uphill on the way to the falls & downhill on the way back. I'll bet the other walkers who were puffing & panting uphill on their way back wished they had a Joan!
Front Royal is an attractive little town, all clapboard & porches, with a surprising number of restaurants, catering to all tastes. We recommend "Element" and "The Wine & Duck", where the chef discussed how he made Lavender Creme Brulee & even offered to bring me some lavender from his garden so I could try.
Joan & Bob have created a wonderful place here. We couldn't fault ANYTHING.
