“a perfect winter, mountain getaway”

My first experience at Cottage on Main was a surprise Valentines Weekend trip for me and my then boyfriend (now husband). This February marks the 5th year! We absolutely love everything about this place. Jeanie and Tom are the best hosts and are quick to offer anything you need as well as great conversations over a glass(es) of wine.We look forward to each return year. :)

Room Tip: Be sure to go in town and eat at Oddfellas. Take a hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy a wine...

We stay at The Cottage on Main every February when we make a trip to Floyd. We love the whimisical and cozy feel! Jeanie and Tom are very hospitable and such a delight!
Jeanie's paintings and creative decorating make the cottages so special and unique.
The cottage is in the heart of The Town of Floyd so you can walk to dinner or to shop.

We stayed in the two-bedroom cottage in the rear of the property. It is a lovely cottage, whimsically decorated by co-owner Jeanie O'Neil, whose artistic skills are evident on every wall, ceiling and floor, making this a delightful place to stay. The bed was oversized and very comfortable, a fully-equipped kitchenette enables guests to enjoy a quick meal, a glass of wine at the end of the day or a cup of coffee or tea. You are a five minute walk from all the attractions in downtown Floyd, including the Floyd Country Store, the farmers' market and all restaurants.
Two minor deficiencies keep me from giving this a "5" rating: breakfast consists only of a pastry or muffin (along with juice/coffee/tea, provided) and the heaters tend to be "all or none", meaning you might find yourself a bit warm or cool.
Very gracious welcome and helpful innkeepers make this a nearly-perfect place to stay during your visit to Floyd and the nearby region.

When you walk into the suite you just smile. It is a joyful place! Our stay was very pleasant. We had almost all the comforts of home. The 2 suites in the cottage have been creatively decorated with painted finishes, and furnished with antiques. Jeanie's colorful and whimsical paintings hang throughout the suite. The bedroom was large and the bed very comfortable. The entire suite was very clean, and well supplied in the kitchenette and bath. The living area was also very comfortable and included a TV. There was also a TV in the bedroom. There is WiFi so you can keep in touch or get some work done. Cell phone service in Floyd is limited so it was great to have internet connection. We like to read and lighting throughout the suite was excellent. The cottage is conveniently located to stores and restaurants. Jeanie and Tom were very gracious hosts. We hope we have a reason to go back to Floyd again, and we would want to stay at The Cottage on Main.

Suite was well equipped and it was nice to have kitchenette and separate living room since we stayed more than one night. Both Jeanie and her husband were very gracious. It would be helpful if they made it easier to find out how to check in when you arrive. Also, there were lots of dog hairs on the furniture. We would go back.

Room Tip: The newer suite in the old office is too close to the road. Very noisy.

I was very disappointed with my stay at the Cottage on Main in Floyd, VA. The room we stayed in was not ready for guests. It was an old building that smelled moldy, had cobwebs in the corners and it was clear that it had not been occupied in a long time. There was no key available and we had to leave our doors open throughout the night and when we ventured. Also, at the last minute, the room that I originally booked was given to other guests who planned on staying longer. It did not allow much time to look for something else.

I've stayed at many bed and breakfasts', and this is by far the worst experience I've had so far. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The pictures on the website are completely misleading.

Having arrived in Floyd from Ireland to 'do' the Crooked Road music scene we went to the visitor's centre where we met the lovely Diane, who could not have been nicer or more helpful. She rang around and finally got us into Jeanie’s Cottage on Main. It was just on the edge of the main street – charming and unique.
This small, old-fashioned wooden cottage sits in her garden at the back of her more colonial style house. Beside the house is her cottage. Jeanie’s father owned all of this and had run his veterinary clinic from the cottage where he had also reared his family.
Jeanie is a handsome, lively lady who is an artist and designer of handbags. She is obviously a real goer. The Cottage is her most recent venture. She has developed two ‘suites’ in the Cottage and she has hand-painted everything, including floors, walls, furniture, light switches. The walls in every room show off her own oil paintings. She seems to go in for studies of groups of people. She is friendly and easy to get to know. She seemed to be delighted to have Irish (and one English) visitors. We were invited to her house for a drink at 6.30.
Steps led up to the small porch with comfy armchairs and a swing door led into a wonderful old world room. Wood panelled, carpeted, wooden floors, big sofas and sloppy armchairs; Jeanie’s work on the walls, a towering fireplace, photo frames and ornaments and artefacts everywhere. We enjoyed a glass of wine and a rambling exchange with them. She is a tall, handsome woman, with rough working hands, sharp, blue eyes and a warm, charming smile. She makes clothes and handbags, paints large packed canvases, and has just this month launched this new business with the cottage.
The cottage is a rare magical place.
