“Unique, tempting, and best of all, affordable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Finally! I've been looking for something different and who knew I'd find it behind Home Depot in 7 Corners Center?!

Looking for a change from the standard Thai fare that seems to be ubiquitous, I happened upon Bangkok Golden. The best news, it turned out that Laotian food was actually what I was craving.

This restaurant has both cuisines (two menus in fact, Thai and Laotian) but this review is based on the Laotian dinner menu (they have a combo Thai/Lao buffet too)

Saturday night about 8ish - the restaurant is packed and the line was almost out the door on a cold night. The patrons were a mix of Thai/Lao speakers and English speakers. Everyone waiting seemed unphased by the line and undeterred by the cold.

The atmosphere is cramped but homey. The service was attentive and helpful. We had the oft-recommended crispy rice salad and it did not disappoint! Get it - it's so delicious and the texture is incredible. We also had the Larb Moo (pork) and the Ping (grill chicken skewers) as well as a Lao Dark beer and a Lao Light beer. It was excellent. The food was so flavorful and the sticky rice came in little grass woven containers. Spiciness is at your pleasure.

I rarely give a 5 star rating but this place is a find. Affordable (and very reasonable for the area) prices makes this a real gem in the Northern Virginia area. Finally, some place that is exciting even though it's in a very bland location.

Situated adjacent to the Shoppers supermarket and behind the Home Depot. Easiest access is from Route 7 (across from the odd and unique freestanding Sears)

“Both Lao & Thai menus!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013 via mobile

Shopping, passed by, stopped in. Zagat & TripAdvisor stickers on door. Place was full, and I stayed. Atmosphere colorful, lively, people talking, soccer game playing silently. Service efficient and polite. Good tea. Vegan options. Ordered Lao Tofu, mild. Attractive presentation with rice in bamboo carrier. Larb bursting with flavors - lime, cilantro, mint. "Mild" leaves a soft pepper tingle.

“Quick Snack Trip Ended Up Pigging Out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

We stopped by with my son and grand-daughter for a quick snack and just kept eating. Finally we knew we would be in trouble if we came home not hungry so we called and got take out for the rest of the family.
I have been to Bangkok twice and the friendly smiles and great food I found in Falls Church made me smile.

“Best Cheap Meal in town!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

Offers Thai and Laotian food...the best I've had! Four of us stayed with Laotian because of previous reviews that said the chef was from Laos. Everything we had was great...3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts for $66 (including tip!). Shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce, crispy watercress salad with tamarind sauce and potato puffs were awesome and we joked about just eating appetizers...seriously, consider it! Everything was fresh, tasty and delicious. Mango sticky rice was to die for...the rice was green from avocado...couldn't tell, but sure made it pretty!

“Great Thai or Lao food at this Falls Church restaurant close to Seven Corners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We had lunch on a Sunday and were lucky to have reached right when they opened at noon. They were nearly filled up by the time we ordered. They have a buffet, but you may want to go for the menu if you want to try some of the specials such as tapioca balls filled with pork and watercress salad, both of which we ordered. The watercress salad reminded us of the "flash fired spinach salad" at the Indian restaurant Rasika in Washington, DC because the watercress is also flash-fried (is this some sort of a tend, to make salads with flash fired greens?) Anyway, the watercress salad was delicious, as were the tapioca balls. We also had pad thai and a salmon cooked in banana wrap. All were good, as was the dessert of avocado- sticky rice with coconut glaze.

Overall it was a very good dining experience. Just remember to arrive early to avoid any wait.
