We had a LivingSocial voucher for Flippin Pizza, unfortunately listing only two locations but not the Falls Church store (closer to our house). I called them and asked if they would accept the voucher, and they agreed, so I ordered a Bronx and a tomato/basil/garlic pizza, for carryout. When I arrived the pies were just out of the oven, the place smelled great (anyone have childhood memories of the great smells at a local pizza parlor?), and the place was pretty busy. Good signs. When I got the the pizza home 20 minutes later it was no longer piping hot, but still really good. Lots of garlic on the white pizza, and the sausage on the Bronx had a nice touch of fennel that's so frequently missing from pizza sausage today (as I said, anyone have memories of childhood pizza?).
We usually go to Pupatella's pizza on Wilson Blvd. when we want a carryout pizza, but Flippin Pizza is going to give Pupatella's a run for their money. Fortunately the styles are quite different; Flippin Pizza is New York style, and Pupatella's is Neapolitan (so maybe both can live happily side-by-side on our pizzeria list after all).
