“Affordable and serviceable family accommodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2009

We chose the TownePlace Suites in Falls Church as the most convenient and affordable place for us to stay while holidaying in Washington, DC. A two bedroom suite works best for us with the adults in the main bedroom, our boys in the other bedroom and the eldest on the fold out couch. Overall, it's not too far from Washington via I-66 nearby, however we opted to use the Metro as there's a fairly large commuter lot at the West Falls Church Metro station. Also, the two bedroom suites seem to be corner suites so having windows on two sides was nice, the views out our windows were the parking lot and the residences behind.

I think of the hotel itself as basic and fairly well maintained. My preference would have been a Residence Inn as it's offers a bit more, larger rooms and two full bathrooms, but the TownePlace Suites was perfectly serviceable. It was nice that there were TVs in the two bedrooms and in the living room. The kitchen had fridge, stove, microwave, coffeemaker and toaster. Oddly, there was no kettle so we boiled water for tea in the microwave using the coffeemaker carafe. As mentioned in another review, you can ask for additional stuff but it's kinda odd that there's only two bath towels in the bathroom and one teenie-weenie bottle of shampoo.

During mornings a 'snack' is offered in the main office. There's coffee and hot chocolate, bottled juices, fruit, and individually packaged muffins and buns as well as bagels (and cream cheese) and a selection of whole fruits. Also, hooray, you can pick up the daily Washington Post and/or USA Today.

The staff is friendly and helpful, and we more than happy to get us a couple of extra towels.

From our room we could see the wireless Internet access point but the wired connection was better. (Especially as we have a travel size wireless router.) It made it possible for me to use the desk in the main bedroom and have reliable Internet access. Otherwise, you'd need a 30-foot cable or to try to coax the wireless access to work.

Some of the limitations of the 'basic' build quality of the TownePlace Suites is that some of the doorframes are beginning to warp and one the master bedroom door didn't always latch. Also, it's nice that the toilet/bath/shower were separated from the sink by a door but the doorframe here too was separating from the wall. Lastly, like some of the other reviewers, we could have wished for slightly better soundproofing. One of our neighbours decided to watch TV at 3AM, we couldn't make out any of the words but we definitely could identify it as a TV program. No, I don't think they had it particularly loud, rather I think the wall construction made it a mediocre sound conductor (rather and a sound insulator/barrier).

Finally, a few words about the neighbourhood. There are a couple of restaurants that are walkable. There's a 'Giant' grocery store near the West Falls Church Metro, a nearby Starbucks, and an upscale mall in Tyson's Corners. Our normal day was to have breakfast in the room, we brought cereal and toast and stuff. Head off to the Metro to spend the day in Washington, DC visiting attractions and museums and come back to the room to kick back for a bit before going out to dinner. Then back to the hotel and crash, except for one night when we did some of the National Mall monuments at night. (Well worth the late evening.)

All told, I'd stay at the TownePlace Suites with the family again, unless we found a Residence Inn that was as handy to the Metro.

I stayed here in a 2 bedroom suite for 3 nights with my husband and 2 children. It is very convenient to DC - 15-20 min from downtown if you use 66 even in peak hours. The suite was very comfortable and big enough to accommodate us comfortably. I requested a suite that is out of the way, so that it is quieter. 2 of the nights it was very quiet, on the 3rd night there was a lot of noise from the upstairs suite, but after I called the front desk it stopped. The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of pillows. There were TVs in each room, though they were small - approx 20in. In the living room there was a couch and an armchair as well as a dining room table. Kitchen had all that we needed. They only provided 6 towels, which were sufficient for us, but if you are accustomed to 2 towels per person it may not be enough. Also, they provided only 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner, so you'd better pack your own (there was a sign saying if we need anything to call the front desk). Internet connection was free and relatively fast. They only refresh the suite if you are staying for a couple of nights - not a full cleaning, but that was perfectly ok with us. Breakfast was offered till 9 on weekdays and till 10 on weekends which was great because we are not early risers. Breakfast consisted of small bottled juices, coffee, bananas, apples, muffins, bars, and pastries - all individually packed. It was great to just be able to grab something and go. We enjoyed staying in this hotel.

  • Liked — spacious, comfortable, close to DC, free parking and internet
  • Disliked — Decor was not the most stylish, but acceptable.

Our extended family booked multiple rooms at this hotel for a 4 night stay due to a wedding. We were extremely pleased with our experience! The staff was always helpful and courteous. When we had a minor problem in our room they offered to move us. The rooms were very clean and the maid staff quick to offer clean towels daily even though this is an extended stay hotel. The property is in a quiet area with only a 5 minute drive to the Metro. The biggest problem we had was finding the place due to the unobtrusiveness of their signage! We would highly recommend this hotel as a bargain for multiple night stays.

I am very impressed by this hotel and it's friendly staff. In a world where customer service has been placed on the back burner, this hotel and staff go above and beyond the call of duty to welcome every guest and make them feel welcomed. We returned once from an outing and we walked in the door and one of the workers looked up from the desk and smiled and waved really big to us, it took me a second to realize that he was waving to me, not a friend that he knew! It made me and my family feel right at home. The hotel was exceptionally clean, there is a small grassy area where my children went on a "nature hunt" and also a small neighborhood to the right of the hotel that has a small grassy area where the kids could go run and burn off some energy. They provide a grab and go breakfast with juice, coffee, pastries, apples, and granola. In the evening they provided cookies for us as we returned to the hotel, a very nice touch! There is a swimming pool outside but it was not open while we stayed there do to the season. There is also a gas grill provided to the guest as well as a washer and dryer ($1.00 each per load) Every door is hotel key accessed so this adds to the security that you feel inside the hotel. The kitchenette has a stove, microwave, refrigerator, and a dishwasher. They provide plates, silverware, dish soap, dish washer soap, and linen. The bed and linen were clean, and comfortable. I can't say enough about how courteous and prompt the staff was. I will recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area, and will stay here again.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Towneplace suites. The rooms were spacious, with a nice kitchenette, excellent workspace and livable room. There are restaurants and a grocery within walking distance, the hotel is convenient to the city (not by subway) and many area attractions. Internet connection was quick; however wireless was unavailable and the internet cable did not reach to the bed. Bring a connector and extra cable if this is important to you.

My husband and I spent the weekend at the TownPlace Suites in Falls Church while visiting family in the area. I was a little hesitant at first because it was only a three star hotel and just the idea that there wasn't even a coffee shop in the building made me nervous. However, I found the place delightful. We stayed in one of the junior suites which was actually nicer than many hotel rooms. It was very clean and spacious and the area was very residential. You actually felt like you were going into one of the local townhouses, not a hotel. Security was very good, and we always felt safe. The parking lot was well lit and it was very quiet in the hotel. The added bonus was the hotel provided quick on the go muffins and fruit and coffee for breakfast, which you could take back to your room if you wanted. When we come back to visit family again, this is definitely where we will stay. It is geared towards business travelers, and I am starting to like the idea of having your own kitchen with all the utensils available, even if to just heat up your coffee or cereal. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone traveling through this area.

  • Liked — It was very clean and the rooms were very nice and I felt safe in the location.
  • Disliked — For our purposes, there was no down side to the accomodations.

My wife had week long training just minutes from the Hotel so I came to visit her for a few days and loved it. The bedding was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was a decent size as well as the kitchen...The hotel was not in a very visible location like a Hotel Strip or anything which was also a good thing for my since the hotel was not filled to capacity making service and use of the property pleasurable. The gym was kind of on the small size but with my self and one of my wives co-workers being the only 2 in there I was just fine for our workout. Although the hotel was not off the main strip it was still close to every that you may needed to get to.

  • Liked — The room was very comfortable and service was great
  • Disliked — gym size was a bit a the small size
