“Friendly, but Dated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

When I arrived at this hotel, I went to check in and was extremely pleased with the staff. They went over all the services that this hotel had to offer in great detail. When I called and asked for extra linens, the housekeeping staff was prompt and friendly in getting those to me. As for the hotel itself, it has seen better days. The room was stuffy because the air conditioner did not circulate the air that well. The carpet was definitely worn, but clean. The WiFi, which is free for Marriott Reward Members, is terribly slow and times out often. I believe if the hotel were remodeled and brought up-to-date, it would be among the best in the area.

This hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. It was in a perfect location to both the Air and Space Museum in VA and to DC. Only stayed one night but would definitely return. We got a great online deal through Priceline as well.

We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel to finish a 3-week vacation in the US. It's a great hotel to use as a basis for visiting DC. From the (free) hotel parking lot, it is a 20 minute ride to the Arlington National Cemetery parking lot. Of course the cemetery itself is a impressive landmark, but after visiting it, you can take short metro ride into town. Another option is to take a taxi to Vienna Metro station (8 minutes) and then catch the Orange line into town. The hotel was as we expected from Marriott. Clean, spacious rooms with both knowledgeable and friendly staff. Front desk agent gave us exactly the rooms we hoped for with connecting doors and both a king and two queen beds for the family. He also threw in free internet. There is the Fair Oaks mall within walking distance and the Dulles airport is only a 20 minute ride. A nearby attraction worth visiting is the Udvar Hazy Air and Space museum at Dulles. Only 10 minutes by car!
Main reason we booked this hotel: It is about 1/3 of the prices of a down town hotel. It has all the amenities you would expect and free parking. This is a good choice for visiting DC.

After staying at low/mid priced properties on this business trip, it's nice to relax at an upscale, full service Marriott.

PROPERTY: This is an older property which has had updates over time. I was in a Junior Suite which overlooked the atrium on the concierge floor.

ROOM: The room was very large with a separate seating area and walk in closet. The décor was understated and a little old looking, but in overall good condition. The room had a central AC system which was anemic and ineffective. The tile bathroom was somewhat small in relation to the room with the wallpaper peeling in several areas. The room had solid surface countertops throughout. A microwave/fridge combo was provided along with a 32” flat screen TV.

BEDDING: The bed was excellent, a Marriott trademark. With clean and comfortable sheets/duvet, and excellent feather pillows.

WORK AREA: The work area was large and tiered with plenty of work space. A power strip on the floor is provided to power electronics. While functional it looked tacky. The chair was worn out and noisy, not conducive to long stretches of work on the laptop.

RATING: Overall I would give the property a 88/100 and 80/100 for value. Fairfax tends to be pricey for hotels.

PRAISE: location, GREAT beds, lots of room in suite. Marriott terrycloth robes provided for use during stay

COMPLAINTS: older property, horrible work chair

My wife and I have just come back from visiting Washington DC. This hotel was a short drive from the airport and a good place to stay after a long flight from UK. We booked one night, but ended up staying for 2 as it was clean and the staff were friendly. It was a short drive to the metro/station (we didn't use, but should have because the traffic in DC was very heavy). Nice spacious rooms good value. Would stay again if in Washington.

I needed an overnight in the DC area and was able to secure a room here for a super low rate. It was a bit confusing to find in the dark and rain, but I got there. The staff was very friendly, got me checked in and settled, offering me a very quiet room. I had a great night's sleep. The room was spacious, quiet, clean, with a robe. It is right next to a large mall, but I didn't investigate that as I needed to head out in the morning.

Food was nice... stay was cozy.. but queen size bed was a little small compared with holiday inn. No fridge or microwave and then got it after requested. So request it before in advance. Also the luggage cart is difficult to find. Rest were good.. Food was great especially the freshly squeezed orange juice.
