“Very nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Stayed here for one evening on our way to Florida. Was a very pleasant surprise. Hotel is very modern and clean. Big bonus was the included breakfast. Right in the heart of a new shopping district. Highly recommend. The only downside is the area is so new that there is still quite a bit of construction going on.

Hubby stayed here for 7 weeks on a work assignment. Kids & I flew put to spend Thanksgiving with him. He switched from a studio suite to a 1 bedroom for our stay (he said the 1 bedroom was not too much larger just configured with more privacy).
First off, the area this hotel is in is SO cool! It's in a lifestyle mall area with shopping, restaurants, speciality stores, condos, movie theater, bars. The interior of the hotel matches with the area, very modern, cool but comfortable.
The 1 bedroom was perfect for our family with 2 young kids. The living room area is smallish but adequate. It has a sofa with a full sized pull out bed and a connected chaise. There a large flat panel tv on a storage stand and a coffee table. There is a tall dining table that separates the living room from the kitchen. There also a phone here so business people can sit and work. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, a 2 burner cook top, microwave, dishwasher and mini sink. There are enough dishes for 4 but limited cooking pans/pots.
The king bed was very comfortable and bedroom also has a large tv atop a chest of drawers. There is a large sink area just outside the toilet/shower room. The shower was incredible! Large, clean and great water pressure. The room itself was fantastic and worth 5 stars!
The added bonus was the included breakfast! Hot, fresh & plentiful! It was a step above your typical complimentary hotel breakfast. Fresh oatmeal with optional nuts, raisins/dried cranberries, individual dry cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, bagel, English muffins, pastries, bread, then prepared scrambled eggs , potatoes, and either sausage or bacon in addition to the cook to omelets plus good strong coffee and Tazo teas.
I'd highly recommend this hotel!

We chose ths hotel because of location to our family. Not the view.
Since it was over thanksgiving the rates were good. We had a suite.
We liked the free breakfast which was buffet style. the area where the food was set up
was very small. Some of the people were very rude. They would take huge servings such as the bacon and doughnuts. It wasn't replaced quickly therefore you would miss out on some popular item. The room we had was great the shower was huge. It was close to the workout room which we liked. We did not like the modern energy saver. You had to put your "Key" in a slot to turn on the heat and the lights. If you took your key out then no heat while you are gone.Heat was set at a certain number like 72.The service was good.

Room Tip: Choose a floor that has a ice machine. Not all floors have ice machines. There is a ice maker in th...

It's really a 3 star hotel, but you get so much value for the nightly rate. It's modern, beautifully designed, minimal and the rooms are spacious (with as many outlets you need for all your electronics) with a full kitchen. Bathroom was a bit disappointing: small shower. No safe in the room, which was rather shocking (you can get a safe by the reception). Breakfast was included - nothing too fancy but again, very impressive for the nightly rate. Service was ok. When we complained about the heat not working in the room- a technician came immediately and resolved the problem. When I called reception for a new hair dryer (because the one in the room wasn't working properly) - well, never got it. Gym is also rather small and basic.

The mosaic district (it's more of a block than a district) is truly charming with nice little boutique and artisanal stores. Nice to walk around.

All in all, highly recommended for a few day stay.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel while researching a possible move to the Merrifield neighborhood. The front desk staff were exceedingly nice at check in and check out. We grabbed a night cap at the hotel bar and the bartender was equally as nice. The morning breakfast spread is very nice. Overall I would stay here again. The hotel is very clean and the room was nicely appointed.

We stayed at the Hyatt House in Falls Church over the Thanksgiving weekend; it's the second stay we've had there in the past two months. Unlike the first stay, this one was problematic and had its disappointments.

I reduced the rating for our recent stay one point (from excellent to very good) because their web site poorly explains the types of rooms. The room we had two months ago had a bathtub. A bathtub is a pretty standard expectation. For our most recent visit over Thanksgiving, I thought I had upgraded our room by selecting a King Studio SUITE. But after we arrived, and entered the room, we saw it had no bathtub, only a shower. The website makes no mention of this difference. That evening I brought this to the attention of the front desk employee. Her answer was that the web site did mention that the King Studio Suite was a shower-only facility. But, see for yourself; the website makes not mention of it: http://fallschurch.house.hyatt.com/en/hotel/rooms/suite.html Unfortunately, we were also told that the hotel was full so we had no options to switch. No - this wasn't an end-of-the-world problem, but it was a disappointment for my wife. And I noticed some other disparities in the website regarding the rooms. So take heed: If you book here, call and make sure you are getting a room type that you want.

I also reduced the rating another point from very good to just “average” because the first night we stayed there was a nightmare. We had driven 9 hours, so we were tired. After eating dinner and settling in for the night, the fire alarm went off. This was around 11:30 pm on 11/25/13. For obvious reasons, the alarms in the rooms are ear-piercingly loud with strobe lights. My wife tried calling down to the front desk for information, but got no answer. So, we had to get out of bed, put on our clothes, and went down the stairwell to the lobby, where we were joined by firemen and other residences. Long story short, there was no fire and after about 45 minutes of lingering in the lobby, we were told to go back to our rooms. Unfortunately, things didn't get any better. That damn alarm kept going off every 5 minutes. All night long! Most (but not all) of the times it was just the bright, flashing strobe right next to our bed minus the ear-piercing siren. Nonetheless, have you ever tried sleeping with a strobe light flashing in your face every 5 minutes? Unbelievably, this went on until approximately 5:30 am. In addition, the instructions on the back of the door to our room said that in the event of a fire alarm, VOICE instructions would be given (presumably via the alarm system). But no such voice instructions were ever transmitted. So my wife and I laid on our bed fully clothed all night long not knowing what to expect next. The next morning I was polite, but told the front desk employee I did not expect to pay for that night's stay. Her answer was she could only offer a 50% discount for that night. I asked to speak to the manager. She said she had authority to act on behalf of the manager. I was too tired to argue. The bottom line here is that, AT MINIMUM, a customer should expect a comfortable night's rest and the Hyatt House completely failed in providing one that particular night. I should not have been charged one cent, but ended up paying 50%. A final point on this saga - the front desk employee tried to explain that it wasn't the fault of the hotel that the alarm kept going off all night long. According to her, there was a faulty smoke alarm in one of the hallways that kept triggering the hotel's general alarm. Well...that's not the customer's fault? It sure seems to me that's the hotel's property, so the hotel should own that problem. And it's ridiculous their alarm system did not permit them to remove the malfunctioning smoke alarm from the grid so the general alarm with flashing strobe would stop being activated every 5 minutes.

Three other negative issues, but they are minor and I did not deduct any points: The clock in the fitness room is 2 hours behind time, there are speakers in the fitness room, and an apparent volume switch on the wall for music, but nothing works. And lastly, why do all the tv’s default to CNN?

On the positive side, the breakfasts were nice, the hotel is clean, and the Le Pain restaurant immediately adjacent to the hotel is very good.
