“Wonderful! Residence Inn, Fairfax, VA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2007

Quiet location with shopping areas and restaurants located nearby. Rooms were very clean. A short 6 mile drive to the Metro stop into DC. Wonderful breakfast buffet with a nice assortment of hot and cold foods. Nice clean pool with lifeguard present. Beds were comfortable. Professional, friendly, knowledgeable desk staff. Only drawback was that the pool had limited hours of 10am-8pm, so it was difficult to be able to go swimming before or after sightseeing for the day.

The staff at this hotel was stellar. The rooms were immaculate. The breakfast was delicious. They even had a lifegaurd posted at the pool.
We had signed up for Marriot's weekly specials newsletter and got a terrific rate.
The hotel was a little difficult to find using our GPS system. Our family used this hotel as a base for touring Washington, D.C. It was somewhat of a drive into the city, but not far from the Fairfax/Vienna subway station.

Stayed here over a weekend, following a week on business, to see sights of Washington with my daughter. Location is a little difficult to find, but agree with previous viewers regarding the quietness of the immediate location. However, it is also not too far from the airport (important in my case), yet is also located in a shopping / eating area with many choices.

Having occasionally stayed at Residence Inns across the U.S before, the room did not disappoint, though the sofabed was not as comfortable as it could have been. Weekend room rates are very good, and given all of the kitchen facilities in the room and separate bedroom, I would recommend it. Breakfast was v good.

When we were there they appear to have a had a flood in the block at the back, and were drying out some of the corridors and rooms on the 1st & 2nd floors.

Although the Fairfax location is out of town, the drive into central Washington during a weekend is a breeze, as there is a manageable level of traffic and the HOV lanes do not operate.. My tip for visitors to the central area is to definitely take the car into the central area (Mall, Capitol, Smithsonian area). Street parking on the meters at weekends is free, and when I went (a very cold Saturday in February), there is plenty of space.

This hotel is a little difficult to find, but once you call they give great directions. I did leave my directions at home and the guy at the car rental was no help so it was partly my fault I could not find the hotel. But once I got there it was great. The hotel is in a very quite area with very low traffic. The front desk was the quick and so check in was a breeze. The room was nice and very comfortable. It was perfect for a weeks stay. The hot breakfasts were excellent. There was eggs and either bacon or sausage every morning plus lots of other things. There was something for everyone. Every evening there was more food. The weather was terrible so it was great to not have to go anyplace for dinner. There are numerous places within walking distance. One morning there was ice on the cars and they had ice scrapers for everyone to use. I'm from Florida I don't know how to use those things. :)

I do not have anything bad to say about the place. It was clean comfortable and I would stay there again.

We were visiting family in the Fair Lakes area so the hotel is very convenient (I wouldn't recommend if planning a sight-seeing trip to DC - too far of a drive).

We booked a 2 bdrm. suite for a family of 4. Having 2 separate rooms with 2 separate bathrooms was very convenient BUT, the rooms both had queen size beds. My husband and I are used to a king, so found it a bit snug. Our teenage daughters refused to sleep together so one pulled out the sofa bed in the common room and the other slept in the 2nd bedroom. In the end it all worked out. We generally get 2 rooms when travelling with them so at $149/night this was a good deal. The breakfast was a bonus (as desribed by everyone else).

Negs: As for smell - the hallways smelled liked DOG. This hotel is used as an extended stay and they allow pets. Ick. Our room was "hotel fresh" so no complaints there, I wouldn't want the one that was recently vacated across the hall from us (with the barking dalmation - he didn't bark at night, only in the afternoon when left alone). As for the thin walls, I have to agree with the others. Our neighbor's clock radio woke me up at 6:30. I was scrambling trying to shut mine off, and finally figured out that it was his. So yes, the walls are a bit thin. I wore earplugs and slept through it the next morning. We were also surprised that there was no fitness center - that was really odd, I can't remember the last hotel I stayed at that didn't.

To sum up, rooms were clean and the beds comfy. Yes I would stay again.

The room was a good size. I would recommend a room on the top floor since the floors are pretty thin and you can hear the person above you walking around. Glasses in the room were not clean, otherwise, the room was clean. Breakfast and Happy hour were excellent. Breakfast had a good selection - scrmabled eggs, bacon, potatoes, bagels, bread, fruits, make your own waafles. Happy had a nice selection of snacks and had wine and beer on some days.

I had checked in to my room and 20 minutes later, someone else was given the key to my room as well. Luckily, I had the latch on the door. I called down to the front desk and they made sure this did not happen again.

There are several stores (Walmart, Best Buy, Food Lion groceries) and restaurants nearby.

Who: Family of 6 plus MIL

Accommodations: Two (1) bedroom suites on 2nd floor

When: One night

Likes: Because of the size of our family, we usually stay to stay at a Residence Inn; great staff at breakfast buffet (which on a Sunday morning at 9:30 was very crowded) which handled the crowds and kept bringing out food with a smile; location was convenient and close to stores; were given late checkout at 1:30 with no problems; A/C worked great

Dislikes: Hallways and rooms smelled like cigarette smoke (wonder if these were previously smoking rooms?); thought suites were showing wear/tear (peeling wallpaper, missing caulking in shower)

Value: Pretty good since we used seniors discount and paid $84 per suite.

  • Liked — Price and size of accommodations
  • Disliked — Cigarette odors throughout hallways and suites
