Love this little place. The food is good and served quickly (portions are large) -try the buttermilk pancakes! It's clean as a whistle in here and the staff very sweet. Get there early on the weekend's it fills up fast.

My wife and I had lunch at Harold & Cathy's yesterday. It's always just about full but turns over fairly quickly. Just good basic food, served by friendly staff. I had beef vegetable soup (homemade) and a sandwich. She had the breaded shrimp which I'm sure were frozen but still perfectly prepared and served in record time. The special, a hot roast beef sandwich served open-faced was immense. Harold, who looks older than Moses, was having one and polished it all off before diving into some pie. He's just a wisp of a gent. Lots of customers seemed to be regulars and they do a brisk take-out business as well. The only other place remotely like this within miles is the Astoria restaurant in Woodbridge. Stop in if you want to step back in time.

Harold and Cathy's is a mainstay in Dumfries! People that have worked in the area, or within 20 miles have eaten there. They advertise, "Always on the left!" as the Route 1 splits and goes around their establishment. Never a bad meal, great service, and friendly staff. The meals are more than adequate, and fast service makes grabbing lunch there even that much more enjoyable. Need somewhere to go for a healthy, fast, and tasty meal, go to Harold and Cathy's. As it is a family business that has been there for (I believe) the 1950's, you know the owner is usually there observing and smiling at his repeat clientele.
