“Clean, Basic Marriott”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2009

The title says it all. My wife and I decided to stay at the airport since we had a 6AM flight and the forecast called for an early morning ice storm. The hotel is nothing fancy, but it's clean, reasonably priced, and functional. We live in Maryland and Dulles is about 40 miles from my home, so wifey and I decided that whenever we have to fly out of Dulles, we'll be staying at the Marriott. They even have a Park and Fly Program and you can leave your car in the hotel lot for far less than it would cost to park in one of the airport lots and the shuttle runs every 15 minutes. Extremely convenient.

I picked this hotel for a short overnight stay between flights on the basis of its proximity to the airport. But it doesn't seem easy to walk between it and the terminal, so you have to wait for a shuttle bus anyway. At least the transfer time is correspondingly short. The hotel was functional but unexciting; the staff were generally helpful. Breakfast isn't available until 6 am (6.30 am weekends) which is not much good if you have an early flight out.

I stayed here because I was stranded at the airport for a night. The first problem was that the front desk and the Marriott Reservations number gave different stories on whether they had rooms. I'm not sure what the game was, were they holding out for a bribe to let go of the room? Weird. Anyway, I got the room and it was more expensive than I wanted, but it was 1130PM and I didn't want to go to a cheaper hotel with no restaurant in it.

Since I was stranded by the airlines, I needed a toothbrush, toothpaste razor etc. The front desk said they didn't have any razors then magically found one when looking for toothbrushes. They also gave me a sample size of deodorant which appeared to be previously used - ick.

I rushed to get some food at the lounge in the lobby and everything looked sort of thread bare and slightly dirty. Also the staff were wondering around almost as if they made up their own schedule of things to do. Not really looking focused and attentive.

The room looked like they were trying to be a luxury hotel so I give them an A for effort, but sitting there with my apparently used deodorant and having just come from the slightly below average late dinner in the lobby, I regretted having splurged the extra $50 to go to this Marriott instead of taking one of the cheaper alternatives.

I'd say with so many choices in the area, avoid this particular Marriott. Their impression of themselves is as a luxury hotel, but they really perform below average.

Building may appear dated, but staff and interior are wonderful. Friendly front desk clerk. Room was freshly redone and clean. Large bathroom compared with some of the Marriotts in downtown DC. Great views of the planes out your window as the hotel is on the airport property. Restaurants & Air and Space museum are minutes away. We definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel while visting some wineries in Northern Virginia. I had a beautiful spacious room with large flat screen television. The bed was cozy, the staff friendly and noise minimal. I had worried being at the Airport there might be plane noise but it was not the case (at least not in my room). The hotel offered a shuttle to many local malls and shopping centers. The hotel had a bar, restaurant and Starbucks with gift shop. The front desk staff was great at both check in and check out. The layout of the hotel was kinda odd but nothing too crazy.

We stayed one weekend night here after spending the afternoon at the Udvar-Hazy Center of the National Air and Space museum. They were offering a great weekend rate which included breakfast and we were able to get the room for $86 including tax. The room had two double beds, HD TV, and WIfi. They have an indoor and outdoor pool which were both clean and patrolled by a staff member. There is also a fitness room which we didnt use. We didnt eat at the hotel for dinner but we did for breakfast which was a buffet, although you could also order off a menu.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2009

We stayed at the Marriott recently, and it was perfect for winding down after a long day of traveling. The people were great -- someone at the front desk even called to ask how our room service was and whether we needed a wake up call. There is a nice fitness center, pool, and restaurant area. The rooms leave a little to be desired, especially the bathrooms where the ceiling was very low. I was also a little disappointed that they charged for internet access. The location is perfect and free shuttle service is offered.
