“Different but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

My wife and I spent 3 nights here in June. The hosts are very hospitable and provide a good breakfast. OK to lounge around around during the day, and yes they do have internet.
The host has done some singing during his long career, so he will likely serenade you over breakfast. We'd be happy to go there again.

Room Tip: Large, but dark, paneled rooms.

The hosts at the Mountain Laurel Inn are delightful, but the inn is dark, dusty and cluttered with too much stuff. Breakfast was dreadful. We missed the amenities we like at a B&B - ice, microwave and sink in kitchen, afternoon snack, good reading lights. The website makes this inn look like something it is not.

I stayed here for two nights after staying 1 night in the Apple Tree Inn. The Apple Tree was nice, but only had availability for one night. Leslie, the host, was very gracious and was concerned that I would be bothered by the ladybugs that inhabited Lillie's room and the bathroom. I assured her that I was not concerned and somewhat enchanted by the lucky little ladies. The house was beautifully decorated, very cozy, and incredibly comfortable. The host, Leslie, was wonderful, prepared delicious breakfasts and was very sociable. The Inn is little farther from the main drag in Damascus where the bulk of the bike rental and shuttle places are, but there is a bike rental place across the street, along with the grocery store and some restaurants. I would definitely stay here again and again and again.

Leslie and family were wonderful hosts and provided four perfect breakfasts even with a 5 day old baby. They have a huge1906 house with beautiful paneling, lots of character and full of interesting old stuff. There are several nice places to sit and relax including large front and back porches. Its a 15 minute walk from the center of Demascus and right across the street from the supermarket and the Virginia Creeper trail. Its easy to miss the entrance so look carefully as you pass the Food City.

Leslie is very helpful and finds time to give advice even with four children who don't seem to mind all the new people coming across their front porch.

We enjoyed eating at Quincy's, which has excellent catfish and well cooked vegetables. Also at Fatties, where AT through-hikers inhale hamburgers.

We plan on staying again this summer. The best feature for my husband and I was the ability to park our motorcycles after a long day of riding & hiking and not getting back on them for dinner. Each night we enjoyed a glass of wine/beer on the porches, then walked the mile up the Virginia Creeper Trail which runs beside the river & in a canopy of trees to eat at In The Country. Very romantic! Breakfast was hardy and unlike other B&B’s small gourmet servings. The price for our room was $40 less per night then our recent B&B stays. Close to hiking, biking, motorcycling. The B&B is across the street from a grocery store, which was convenient for us being on bikes, yet tucked away deep in the woods as if in a world by itself. We like outdoorsy and the Mountain Laurel was perfect. We'll be back in August, stay longer and enjoy the swimming pool.

My wife and I stayed at this beautiful bed and breakfast for our one-year anniversary and we loved it! If you are planning an overnight stay in Damascus, VA, to bike the Virginia Creeper trail, you will love staying here.

It's run by this really nice family, whose children help out with the upkeep of the home. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted by the owner and felt right at home. The home is this beautiful, turn-of-the-20th-century house with a huge, well-kept yard. Even as a guy, I can tell you this house is so well decorated. The friendly way you're treated and the attractive--even ornate--decorating truly allows you to relax (so important for a weekend getaway).

Our room was clean and the breakfast spread of coffee, orange juice, homemade muffins, eggs, bacon, etc. offered the next morning was awesome.

Their website is great also because they give you a full-360 degree view of the room. Enjoy!

This is a GREAT Bed and Breakfast in Damascus, VA and amazingly family friendly! We are a family of three with a ten year old boy, and the Mountain Laurel Inn was just perfect for us! The Inn itself is a wonderful old Victorian home decorated with lots of antiques and family pieces, but the decor is warm and inviting. It lacks any hint of stuffiness or pretension and was the perfect resting spot for our mountain mini-vacation. We went to Damascus to enjoy the outdoors, ride the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail, and to relax.

Upon our arrival we were welcomed by Leslie, one of the innkeepers. After giving us a brief tour of the inn she showed us to our fairly large room located upstairs. We stayed in "Sisters" room that has a sitting area and its own private bath. It was located near the lovely screened porch off the back of the inn.

Once we were settled, Leslie graciously phoned around town to help us obtain Virginia fishing license requirements and recommendations for the best fishing spots since we were from out of state. Before our arrival she had arranged discounted bike rental from a shop conveniently located across the street from the inn. To reach the bike shop (and a grocery store for conveniences) it was a pleasant walk out past the inn’s lovely flower gardens, down a tree-lined driveway, and then just across the street. The next day after we had completed our scenic 18 mi. Virginia Creeper Trail ride down the mountain we just walked back to the inn, changed clothes and took a dip in the Inn’s pool. The poolside is very restful as it is surrounded by the lovely view of the inn and the woods behind the property.

For meals other than breakfast, Leslie had menus from local eating establishments. Leslie made phenomenal breakfasts that were absolutely delicious, healthy, and even kid-friendly as our 10 year old can attest. Folks trying to eat healthfully organic will find many savory items available to choose.

Our family enjoyed our stay with the wonderful family innkeepers at the Mountain Laurel Inn. We hope to return soon.
