I have stayed here twice with my husband for weekend trips to ride the Virginia Creeper Trail. Dinner is always excellent and the staff is friendly. Would definitely stay here again. The balcony overlooking the waterfall was awesome!

Room Tip: A corner room with a balcony is the best for viewing the mill water fall.

This is a wonderful inn! We had a room on the third floor overlooking the waterfall and the river....the view was sensational! The service and the staff were charming and professional and had loads of hospitality! It was my birthday celebration and we arrived to roses in the room!

Room Tip: We did not have the breakfast, but it was complimentary with the room and would have been cooked to...

We met up with friends for a weekend in Damascus, VA Oct. 10-12 and stayed at the Damascus Old Mill Inn. We had stayed there a couple of years ago and thought the lodging, the food, and the service were tops so we knew we wanted to go back again. This year's experience was even better than that first visit. The Inn's friendly staff again provided attentive service making us feel quite at home and this year the chef had added more new items to the restaurant menu that were wonderful. On Saturday, we rode our bikes down the Creeper Trail in the rain then came back to the pub in the Old Mill for beverages. The pub had TV so we watched football and listened to the live music from local musicians entertaining us in the pub before taking in a Sherlock Holmes play at the Barter Theatre that night. I got an unexpected surprise as I was waiting to catch the elevator on the second floor to go down from my room on Saturday afternoon when a wedding party appeared coming down the hallway toward the elevator, all elegantly dressed for the ceremony taking place on the ground floor of the Old Mill's facilities. In summary, it was a relaxing weekend for us at the Old Mill Inn even with the rain. I highly recommend it. I'm sure that from the expressions on their faces, that the bride and groom and the rest of their group were having a great time at the Damascus Old Mill Inn as well. Max G

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the waterfall. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking the waterfall.

Green Features: The Inn is actually a re-purposed old mill grist mill on Laurel Creek in the center of Damascus, Va that has been converted into a beautiful lodge, restaurant, and pub. I guess that's being environmentally friendly and green.

We had a great long weekend in Damascus, VA this past weekend. The accomodations, food and service at the Old Mill Inn were fantastic. The menu was revamped from the last visit we made 2 years ago. The food was great then and even better now. The staff takes great pride in their menu and their property. We rode bikes and enjoyed our day despite the rain. The rain kept us off the Old Mill's balconies overlooking the waterfall but we'll be back to take it all in. I love beer and the 16 draft choices offer something for all beer lovers! The stage production @ Barter Theatre made for a very entertaining weekend!!

Room Tip: All rooms are charming, but request a room with a window!

After reading many reviews of the Old Mill Inn here on TripAdvisor, we decided to splurge and rent a 3rd floor room with balcony overlooking Laurel Creek and the old mill dam. I've blogged about it on Ken Loyd's Eclectic Blog with a load of pictures. The inn's website is very informative, so you know what you're getting. Though we intentionally went before fall leaf-viewing season (to avoid crowds), we received personal attention and got to talk to the staff quite a bit. The Jacuzzi was nice after two days of biking and hiking, but we would have loved our room even without it. The mornings were chilly, so we didn't linger on our balcony, but at certain times, it would be worth paying extra. From what we read, every room is unique, so there's something for everyone. The continental breakfast was good, but not amazing. But our hostess scrambled me up 4 eggs each morning for a nice addition to the fruit, yogurt, bagels, English muffins, etc. Having stayed in both Abingdon (last year) and now in Damascus, we felt the atmosphere in Damascus (off season, at least) was relaxed and peaceful. We only had dinner here the final night, but it was quite good. The history of the mill in itself was worthy of attention. Art around the dining room and pub depicted scenes of the mill and other historical sites in the area-- painted on old boards and metal from the original mill building. If the price doesn't shock you (and at least a couple of rooms are not too high) it's certainly the best choice in Damascus.

Room Tip: Read all the room descriptions on the inn's website. Note which rooms have a river view, but al...

The Old Mill is a great place to stay for riding the Creeper trail. We took a shuttle up from the Blue Blaze bike shop, which is a block away, so when you finish, you are "home." They let us check in early, making it possible to do the Whitetop to Damascus section that afternoon (call ahead and reserve a shuttle spot, we caught the 1:30 for the half hour trip up). The next day we shuttled to Abingdon and road our bikes back to Damascus (a ride I enjoyed more) and had the afternoon to drive back to Abingdon via Abingdon Winery, Abingdon Olive Oil tasting, and finished at Wolf Hills Brewery. Dinner at Rain Restaurant. Next morning we hiked the Iron Mt trail, they let us check out late, which expanded our activities on both ends.
The Old Mill is really the only place to stay if you want to finish your rides in Damascus and not stay in a B&B. It is a bit rough around the edges in places, but basically clean and average country style decor. The breakfast is very basic bread and cereal continental. Nice places to sit outside by the river.
The restaurant has average food, but serves local brew and wine. Nice to eat there if you don't want to drive. Otherwise Abingdon has several fine restaurants.

Room Tip: We were in 203, which had a king and a big window looking out over the little falls. Above us was 30...

Beautifully restored mill. Guest rooms have attention to detail. Sun-Thursday the place is quiet, but the weekends offer live music and more guests. The staff is laid back and they really try to make you feel at home. If you arrive on Monday or Tuesday....expect to drive to Abingdon for dinner.

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor with a private balcony. The only thing we heard all week was the water...
