“Clean, Polite, Perfect Pizza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

After attempting to eat at nearby Crozet Pizza, which has more ambiance, but which lacks any kind of attempt at customer service because they are so busy (but they don't take reservations), we gave up after 30 minutes and went to Sal's down the street. What a difference! They pulled two tables together for us, gave us crayons for the kids, refilled our drinks efficiently and the pizza was very, very good - we had the "everything" pizza and a cheese pizza and both were delicious. Thanks, Sal's, for rescuing our family evening!!

“Friendly neighborhood place, better than it needs to be, with some gluten-free as a bonus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

We used to alternate between the two places but now we always bypass the relatively famous Crozet Pizza for Sal's every time, for take-out and for eat-in both. Crozet Pizza doesn't have quite the snobby attitude it did under the previous generation's management, but they're still bossy and impatient. More importantly,Crozet Pizza is the kind of pizza only adults love. Sal's is the good old-fashioned New York kind of pizza that suits our whole family and any range of guests we have over to watch a game or hang out. The gluten-free pizza (to which they've now added a few gluten-free pastas) is a big deal for one member of our family, and they have some nice special desserts, some very good special pasta dishes, and better fresh vegetables and other ingredients than you'd expect from a place of this kind. The folks are friendly and considerate; there's a real neighborhood atmosphere to it all; they do local benefits and such. You might still bring out-of-town guests to Crozet Pizza if they're curious, but if you just want a good meal, you go to Sal's, which is much cheaper, quicker, and more reliable. (The only drawback, especially on NFL weekends, is that Sal's is closed on Sundays.)

“Yuck”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

We have tried Sal's on 3 different occassions and are done trying. Their pizza tasted like cardboard and the other dishes I have tried lack flavor. The atmosphere is blah and the interior is run down without having character to it, unlike Crozet Pizza which is old, but has character.

From what I have heard over the past couple of years, people either really like Sal's or they don't. We fall into the REALLY don't. Based on this, it may be best to not go off of reviews and just try it for yourself.

“Great Pizza but iffy salad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

I was working in the area and wanted a nice pizza. I grew up in Phila. and am use to good pizza. The hand thrown pizza (mushrooms, peperonni and sausage) was great. More than two guys could eat (medium).
The salad was a little disappointing. It was ice berg lettuce, 4-5 cucumber slices, a few split cherry tomatoes and a bunch of red onion each piece about 1.5" long. I had blue cheese dressing and that was good. The salad needed a few spinach or other greenery to be a lot better. I ate all of it though.
I'll go back for sure when I am in Corzet. While I didn't have a beer you can get one there. wine too. A very pleasent place, ok for kids. Locals seem to patronize it. Don't let the sitting deter you.
