It has been a busy month since our Thanksgiving/Birthday/Family Reunion was held at Concord Manor. All 17 family members - from age 17 to 93 - agreed that we couldn't have come together in a more perfect place.
The spacious home accommodated our 4 couples and 9 singles so well in the 7 large bedrooms. We "hung out" mostly in the big kitchen and comfortable dining room, played croquet and whiffle ball, and enjoyed a bonfire in the tree-surrounded firering in the "backyard", and relaxed in the warm November weather on the back porch, overlooking the pool (which was covered for the chilly months ahead). The only time we left the House was for the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot in nearby Lynchburg, as everything we wanted or needed was right there in Concord.
The House is so well-equipped; we lacked nothing but a large roasting pan (which we brought) in the preparation of Thanksgiving Dinner (one turkey on the grill, one in 1 of the 2 ovens. There were enough dishes, flatware and serving pieces for this huge meal, and enough room in the 2 refrigerators for all the leftovers.
The beds were large and comfortable, and there were enough roll-aways to allow us to fashion a "girls' dorm" and a "boys' dorm" out of 2 of the bedrooms. Plenty of linens, soap, and kitchen basics were provided. Every room was furnished perfectly with period furniture and each of us felt comfortably "at home" from the minute we walked through the door. After 40+ years of renting vacation homes, we can honestly say that we have never felt more immediately at home in a rental.
The owner, Bill Carrico is a fine "Innkeeper" and a pleasure to work with. He was very good about answering all of our questions before our visit, and quick with his replies. Even after our 5-day stay, Bill was very gracious about answering our questions about the history of this fine old house.
We hope to return to Concord Manor for future reunions, and certainly recommend this lovely home to anyone looking for a lovely getaway.
