Like the food there and Tina is great. Nice atmosphere. Great place to meet people. Very friendly. Prices are reasonable.

“Not worth it at all”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

The owner sat us. He didnt bother to let anyone know that we were there. Finally one waitress (meagan) took our table. She did a great job, but the food was not that good. I would not waste my time or money to go back

“Busy restaurant, efficient service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

They were unusually busy for a Wednesday night with a couple of large parties in the main dining area. However, having made a reservation we were quickly shown to a window table overlooking the narrow, not particularly scenic, creek with the lights in the fake palm trees of the miniature golf course next door adding a wierd vibe to the view. Having been given a senior menu we opted for that and were well satisfied. My salad was adequate and the artichoke vinaigrette had a subtle flavor. The fried crabcake was small but tasty. My husband had his usual fried oysters which he said were not as good as those he'd enjoyed at other restaurants in Chincoteague and on the Outer Banks of NC. Splurging on key lime pie was a decadent treat but worth the calories. As the daylight waned the lighting was insufficient for senior eyesight. It may be romantic, but not practical when you cannot see what you are eating.
Tip: If you have a big appetite do not order off the senior menu. Together with crisp French bread it was sufficient for us, but the portions were as described - "petite".

“Tops in our book”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Not sure what's NOT to like. Service was great, food is outstanding, especially the Oysters Rockefeller and the grilled tuna. Ambiance is "islandy", everyone on the staff is helpful and friendly. We were there this time on a Wednesday, so the place was not very crowded. Last year we were there on a Friday, which was much more crowded, but service was still great. When we get to island, the first thing we do is make reservations at A.J.'s.

“not a fine dining experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

ajs appears to be an upscale choice; but I think not. The food was good; except for the soup was Luke warm and my husbands oysters were so fried; they were burnt. They have a senior menu; but when I asked for it the waitress said it wasnt worth it. I took her word for it but now I wonder- why offer it if I cant see it....? The other odd thing was that the place was empty at 6:30 on a Saturday.hmmmmm.
