“Enjoyed everything about The Watson House, but especially the kindness of Bob & Carol Mabin.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011 via mobile

The room was very comfortable & clean. The Mabin's go out of there way to make sure you are comfortable. Bob is especially knowledgeable about the area: things to do, places to eat, etc. Carol's breakfast is most delicious. She even packed us a to go bag of goodies. The night we arrived, Bob already had made our dinner reservations. We would definitely recommend The Watson House.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate our 25th anniversary and loved it. Bob and Carol were extremely friendly and helpful. The house is spotless, and the breakfasts were tasty and plentiful. Bob told me that his aim is to make sure there is enough food to get you thru to dinner if you spend the day sightseeing or at the beach. He was speaking the truth. The location of the house was very convenient, and if you are into antiques the house is full of them, but comfort was not sacrificed for beauty. The house was quite functional. They also provided bikes, chairs, beach towels, etc.---all free of charge. Finally, their pet cat Clyde who lives under the storage shed was a delight.

Had a very nice stay last week with Bob and Carole at the Watson House. We felt very welcome and our visit was most enjoyable. The house is a true antique, and the rooms are very nicely furnished with period pieces. Bob and Carole are outstanding hosts. Carole's breakfasts were very nice and she even packed us a snack bag for our trip home. The house is very conveniently located on Main St.; a short walk to many shops and restaurants.

This was my husband and I's first B&B stay ever and it truly set the bar for a warm, cozy, and welcoming time. The innkeepers were very friendly and great to talk to! The house was very clean, modern, and warm (considering it was 25-30 degrees outside!). The little town was a blast to hang out in as we were able to be part of a town wide event called "Death by Chocolate" in honor of Valentine's Day. This is simply a wonderful place to go for a quiet getaway. We can't wait to go back!

We vacationed at the Watson House for three nights in May, 2008, as a last getaway before our first child was born. We'd been to Chincoteague ten years earlier, back in 1998. At that time we stayed in a small motel down the street, which we didn't care for but which was the best we could afford at the time. I remember walking past the Watson House one evening and seeing the people relaxing on the wrap-around porch of that beautiful house (I love old houses) and thinking, "Wow, I wish we could have stayed there!" So ten years later, we did.

We stayed in the Sun Room (so named because of the small adjoining sun room) and liked it very much. When we made the reservation we told them we wanted a room that would be cool and fairly quiet so I could rest, and this room worked well, since the sun room provides a buffer between the sleeping area and the street. The sun room was a nice place to sit and read, the bed was comfy enough even for a pregnant woman, and we really enjoyed having breakfast each morning out on the sunny front porch (I had to pass on the champagne mimosas, but it was nice to have the offer!). Bob and Carole had bikes, beach chairs, towels, sun block, and other things available for guests to use, and we spent two lovely afternoons with a picnic on the beach (sandwiches & treats from Sea Star Cafe & Wine, Cheese, & More down the street). They also gave us a pass to the refuge so we could get in for free during our stay.
Bob was really helpful with reservations, directions, and even helped us find a place where I could get a prenatal massage during our stay. He and Carole go above and beyond. We'll stay here again... hope it won't take another 10 years to get back to Chincoteague!

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here last Labor Day weekend. The innkeepers are so courteous and helpful. I highly recommend that you sit on the porch for breakfast to enjoy the morning air and cool breezes. Breakfast was delicious-- and they even sent us with coffee and muffins for our long drive back home. We will be back!

We had a great three-day stay at the Watson House . A friend and I visited there because we wanted to go to the beach, but we’re also wildlife and nature enthusiasts, so we chose Chincoteague because of the horses, deer, birds, protected sand dunes, non-commercialized atmosphere, etc. After researching all the B&Bs on Chincoteague, I chose the Watson House, which turned out to be a really great choice! When we arrived later in the evening at 8:45 p.m., Bob was ready for us out front, along with Clyde the cat, who was a very entertaining watch cat as we were unpacking the car. (Don’t worry – he’s an outside cat). Bob even offered to make restaurant reservations, although we didn't need them. As far as location, there are about five B&Bs that are within a few blocks of each other, and all within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the theater, etc. Bob and Carole, the owners of the Watson House, are very warm, friendly and fun people. They’re the kind of people you feel immediately comfortable with when you meet them. The house itself is very clean and the rooms are nice. We stayed in the sun room, one of the rooms upstairs that has a small enclosed little porch-like area. Someone else said that the rooms look much nicer than on the website, and I would completely agree with that! Coffee is available every morning around 7:15, and hot tea and biscotti are available anytime. The breakfasts, served every morning from 8:30-9:30, were very good! After breakfast, Bob was available to help with recommendations re: things to do and places to go. One of the mornings, we did a boat cruise with Daisey’s Dockside Cruises (one of a few that is recommended by Bob), located on Main St. I would highly recommend their company for boat tours! After calling a few of the boat tour companies, we chose Daisey’s because they were very helpful and friendly on the phone, being patient as we asked questions about the best times to see certain wildlife. The friendly attitude was definitely not the case with all the boat tour companies. Our driver, Tom, was great – very friendly and personable, talked to everyone, answered our questions, was very informative, asked what types of things we wanted to see – dolphins, birds, ponies, etc. – then took us to them. He’s also part of a family that had lived on Chincoteague for generations. I’ve heard that Captain Barry’s also does a great tour and I did talk to them by phone. They were very friendly as well, but their tours are a lot more “hands on” stuff, like digging for clams and things like that, because that’s what they’re known for. While that sounds like fun and maybe we’ll do that on another trip, this time we were looking for something with more wildlife watching. I would recommend going with Daisey’s or Barry’s if you want an enjoyable boat tour with a friendly and knowledgeable guide! Back at the Watson House… Bob made reservations for us at Etta’s one evening. The food was pretty good, but what we liked even more is the great view we had overlooking the water. We took our binoculars inside and watched the horses across the bay and the birds that were congregating on the water. The Watson House provides you with bicycles, beach chairs, beach towels, binoculars, bug spray (which you’ll definitely need in the summer), sun screen, etc. Bob even let us use the bikes after we checked out because we were still in town for a few hours. In the evening, the porch is a beautiful place to sit and relax on the wicker rockers after a long day. If you’re looking for a great place for your next stay in Chincoteague, I would recommend the Watson House!
