“Excellent Place To Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2010

My husband and I had a wonderful Labor Day weekend celebrating our 40th wedding anniversay. Best Western is a wonderful place to stay. It is right across the causeway from Assateague Island. You can rent bikes at the Best Western and bike over to Assateague Island. The beach and most of the trails are bike accessible. We chose to hike on Assateague Island and had a great time. Be sure to bring insect repellent as Assateague has a LOT of mosquitos right now.

The Staff at Best Western were so nice and helpful and the cleaning staff kept our room spotless. There is a delicious complimentary breakfast each morning. There is also a trolley that runs in the evening to take you downtown, if you do not want to drive. You can pick it up right in front of the Best Western. Some of our favorite places in Chincoteague to eat were - Famous Pizza near Best Western, Bill's Seafood located downtown and the Island Creamry on Maddox Blvd. It is noted for it's delicious ice cream and fudge. There is also a nice Christmas ornament store, The Brant, that is on Maddox Blvd. Be sure to go downtown and watch the sunset on the bridge one evening. It is gorgeous!

We wanted a "home base" to explore the Wildlife Refuge in Chincoteague and this fit the bill. The rates were a little higher than the other hotels nearby, but we liked that they were the closest hotel to the Refuge and the other hotels were sold out. The room: we were pleasantly surprised by how clean and large the room was with attractive details. A nice room! The only issue for us was the sound of the traffic going down the road. The McDonald's across the street was also very busy and bothered me but not my partner. The pool was lovely, breakfast was fine, the staff was very nice, pleasant and helpful.

Sorry to say but there is no way around this one. Checked into hotel room on 2nd floor. Strong urine odor in room. Rugs stained, looked old. Told front desk woman who called room to see it was ok, she offered another room same floor down other side of building. Was upgrade she stated, well again rug stains but not as much odor noted so we took that room. We were duped, told facility is just beautiul per staff member. It is not. Many many flies and mosquitos, some flies in the rooms. Needed a fly swatter desperately. Tried to chase flies down for several hours and got literally no sleep at all here. Location is closest to the beach, but with that you get lots of bugs. Left with bug bites all over my body. Would NEVER stay here again. Left before even trying a breakfast as flies were just making it not even an appealing thought. Strongly suggest you bring a bug repellant with you to this island or you will be sorry you did not. Would never deal with Best Western again. They need to upgrade and modernize their facilities to charge top dollar and this place just ruined my vacation. Stayed another place for 2 nights down the road which was WAY better than this dump.

Had a great stay. The hotel is right at the entrance for the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Kathy our housekeeper and the ladies at the desks took great care of us.
The hotel is also within walking distance of shops and restaurants.
Would definitely stay there again.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The room was large enough for the 4 of us and very clean. The breakfast included with the room was plenty to keep the kids happy. The pool was a bit small considering the crowd on a summer weekend but the landscaping was nicely done. We will come back next year!

We enjoyed our stay at the Chincoteague Best Western -- we had the Papa John suite which included a separate, attached room for the kids: a full size bed and bunk beds so no doubling up for them! The master bedroom included a jacuzzi spa which the kids said was better than a pool. Speaking of pools, the outdoor pool is great (towels are supplied free at the front desk) and the bike rental behind the hotel was great. The smallest bike was a bit big for our 6 yr old daughter but she managed fine for the flat refuge bike trails just down the road. The staff was pleasant including the lovely Sarah at the bike rental who was flexible and accomodating for a slightly befuddled, vacationing family. The only negative we found was the coffe -- we like tall, dark, Starbucks roast so the light roast in small styrofoam cups was a disappointment but by far the only complaint!

My family and I have just returned from a blissful vacation on Chincoteague. We found the front desk staff at this BW incredibly friendly, accomodating and helpful. The room was tastefully update and spacious. Two bathroom sinks were a big help to our family of four. The beds and pillows were very comfortable! The only negative for the room was very low water pressure in the shower (more like soft rain). Breakfast was as good as the standard breakfast buffet can get and always fresh. Early breakfast was even prepared on Pony Swim Day. This hotel has the perfect location if Assateague is your place. You can walk out the BW and hike, bike or drive to the refuge which is practically next door and visit the south corral ponies, see incredible wildlife and the most pristine beaches! The hotel pool was very clean and had lovely landscaping as well as a fence to provide privacy from the road. If you love Chincoteague ponies, wildlife and the beach, this is the hotel for you!
