we have visited Cgincoteague 4-5 times and we always come back to The Refuge Inn....each room is different and tastefully furnished; the bedding is far better than other hotels! the staff is friendly; the place is cleaned regularly! just a great home away from home! we love it there and can't wait till our next visit!

If you are ready for a relaxing break in a beautiful area, there is no shortage of good reasons to travel out to Chincoteague, but a stay at this family run inn should be at the top of that list. From the first call for a reservation to a warm greeting at the front reception, the experience is professional, warm, welcoming and pretty much all you can hope for to begin a relaxing stay.
Did I mention the ponies? I will.
The entire property and especially the rooms are well kept and up-to-date in terms of décor and well-maintained, spotless and looked after by a staff with an eye for detail. Housekeeping is friendly and attentive, not the scurrying quick and hiding kind seen at some hotels. Given a choice of forest or parking lot view, I was headed to the forest, until they mentioned the ponies on the lawn. Yes, there is a fast food restaurant visible through the trees, but it shouldn’t detract from the overall experience. Towns don’t always do what is truly best and reasonable when it comes to commerce. However the ponies under the pines are a nice view and the parking lot is not heard upstairs at all. The rooms are properly built with decent sound proofing and there were chairs on the balcony to sit with a drink and relax with a view of, yes, ponies. One of the main reasons people visit this area is to come and see these little cuties. You might not see them in the wild during your stay, but at least you can have them right outside your window if you choose.
There is a pool and sauna available. Breakfast is more than adequate with a friendly and helpful staff catering to any wishes and offering waffles one day, or maybe French toast the next, etc.
Cynthia, and co. can offer any number of helpful suggestions if prompted, and all with a courteous and friendly manner making it fun just to have a chat with them.
Chincoteague is special in its own right, so it’s fitting to make your stay also special when there, and this inn fits perfectly if this is the kind of stay you prefer.

My daughter and I have been coming to the Refuge Inn every spring for about 10 years. We still love it. The rooms are always clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Staff is pleasant and helpful. We enjoy our morning breakfasts, dips in the pool and hot tub, and when the weather is nice, trips up to the rooftop where we can lounge in the sun and read our books! The ponies and bike rentals on site make this the perfect spot if you have children. It's just a short ride across the bridge to get to the wildlife refuge. We know we could book elsewhere, but we always come back here. It's our favorite spot in Chincoteague.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Refuge Inn. We love the location, right near the entrance to the park. Our daughter loves having the ponies on the property and getting bags of food from the front desk to feed them. They have an amazing pool, plus a hot tub and sauna. Our room was large, comfortable and quiet. We enjoyed the second floor with a view of the pines.

The people working there were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was more than expected. There website say continental, but each day had a hot item as well, which was a nice surprise.

Overall, highly recommended! We had a great stay.

Room Tip: We like the second floor with a balcony facing the pines. I'm sure others would prefer the conv...

The staff is welcoming, the rooms are very nice with small balconies. The breakfast has many choices. The guests are greeted the moment they enter the breakfast room being asked if we would like waffles.
The pool is one of the nicest hotel pools I have been in.
While iRefuge Inn is on the main hightway,it is surrounded by trees and feels like being in the woods

Room Tip: There are severall choices of rooms. The one with the king size bed was very nice

I have stayed at the Refuge Inn several times over the years with my children and now my grandchildren. This time, our connecting rooms were spotless, roomy, and nicely decorated; as nice as they have ever been. The staff was friendly. We love that the refuge is a very short bike ride away. We rented some bikes and brought some with us. The kids have always loved having the ponies right next door in the corral. We have always come off season so the weather can be iffy. This time it was in the 40's and windy with some showers. The pool and hot tub provided great escape and entertainment. With bike riding, pool time, pony sightings in the refuge, hiking, putt-putt, and ice cream at the Creamery, we had no problem filling two full days. The breakfast was nice and had enough variety to suit 4 ten year old kids and two adults. I too love the metal keys. Since Assateague Island and Refuge are Chincoteague's greatest draw, I wouldn't want to stay anywhere but the Refuge Inn. We can't wait to go back.
