“Great hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

My wife and I stayed at the Refuge Inn April 26-28 for a weekend visit to Chincoteague Island. The Inn is located near the entrance to the Chincoteague Wildlife Refuge. We rented a deluxe room with a king-sized bed. Our room was clean, spacious, and attractively appointed. It actually looked like the pictures on the web site. We had a small balcony available to us with a view of a small wooded area. The staff was very nice. Every morning they serve a continental breakfast with a different featured item (waffles, french toast, etc.). We also enjoyed the heated pool and jacuzzi. You could definitely get a room for less but I think the extra money we spent to stay at the Refuge Inn was well worth it .

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a soaking tub.

This was a surprise weekend getaway and my first time to Chincoteague. I've never stayed at a hotel that wasn't a part of a chain. I'm happy we didn't. We had a beautiful room and it was a great size. We loved the double curtains which allowed us to sleep in. Being so used to getting up early everyday during the week, that was a huge plus for us. The staff was extremely nice and the grounds were well kept.

Since our trip was in April, there weren't quite as many people as we heard usually visit the island. For my first trip there, I'm glad I got to experience it during a "slow" period. I'm sure though that when we return during the summer, we'll have the same experience at this hotel. This is a must stay!

Room Tip: Try the king deluxe rooms! I believe there are two. We stayed in one. It was larger than the ones we...

This was a surprise trip for my wife to see the ponies, it was a great trip and capped off with a stay here. Not a chain hotel, friendly staff, clean room, bit dated, but quite, clean and well appointed. No issue really this will be my stay next visit. Close to the park, a corral with a pony on the property. Bike rentals close, places to eat close, and a breakfast included. Small gift shop, and the heated pool, Jacuzzi and sauna were all nice,,,

Room Tip: rooms have small sitting area outside, if you pick a ground room it is to get your bags in and out...

My husband, son and I recently spent a wonderful weekend at The Refuge Inn in Chincoteague and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The location among the trees with the ponies next door was beautiful and the room was tasteful, well-maintained, and quiet. The scenery looking out towards Assateague was outstanding. I can't say enough about the awesome staff. Everyone from the front desk staff to the "breakfast" ladies to the housekeepers were the most helpful, friendly, and gracious you could ever ask from a hotel. We can't wait to go back!

We stayed at the refuge inn as a tripadvisor recommendation and we were very happy with our choice. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful and friendly and the price was good. Pool area was nice and the kids loved seeing the ponies on site. Would recommend and would stay again!

Family owned and operated non-chain Hotel. Well maintained and clean rooms - not new - but very good. Our room was very quiet. Staff was helpful with suggestions. Breakfast (included) was basic but par with other hotels offerings. Enough to get you going in the morning. Location is one of the best in town. Bring your bikes or rent them next door. Short ride to the beach. Be aware that bikes and walking into Wildlife Refuge is free. With the bike lane - very safe. Would recommend Refuge Inn as a good alternate to the chain Hotels. Overall very good Hotel.

Have stayed here in the past andit hasn't changed. Rooms are nice and clean, not new or modern but nice. The room has a nice large dresser and TV. They have a mini fridge and coffee maker in the room. Microwave is available at the end of the hall. Continental breakfast was nice. When we walked in the woman asked if we wanted a waffle today? We said yes and were delivered a nice hot waffle in minutes. The people at the front desk are full of information for any questions you have. Best part is it's 2 seconds from the bridge to the Refuge and there are bike rentals right next store (we just ignored the McDonalds) that was next to that. There is also a very nice inside/outside pool available but we didn't use it.

Room Tip: Al the rooms are great.
