We have been to the Charlottesville area many times and stayed at a number of other B & B's. This is one of our favorites.
The Inn at Monticello is a warm and inviting circa 1856 house with 5 cozy guest rooms, a beautiful living and dining area, and delightful innkeepers, Norm and Becky. Our room was very comfortable and nicely appointed with antiques and a working fireplace. We had no problems sleeping or relaxing here!
In the afternoons, we enjoyed sipping some excellent Virginia wines and chatting with our hosts. We learned from them that The Inn at Monticello has an interesting history. During the Civil War, Benjamin Franklin Ficklin, one of the owners of the property where the Inn is located, acquired Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Mr. Ficklin is also known as a founder of the Pony Express.
Another great feature of this inn is that there is so much to do close by. You can easily walk to Monticello -- there is a beautiful trail that goes about two miles through the woods to Thomas Jefferson's home.
Overall, we rate our stay at The Inn at Monticello as an excellent experience. Our hosts served us a wonderful breakfast in a casual family atmosphere. We really enjoyed speaking with the other guests around the table. And our accommodations were wonderful. We are looking forward to returning sometime soon.
