“Overnight for Monticello”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Stayed here because of the TripAdvisor ratings and because of closeness to Monticello (only 1 exit away). Nice room location overlooking lake (it snowed overnight). Quiet. Several restaurants are nearby (driving not walking). Price was ok after discount.

This hotel had just about everything we needed for a great overnight stay while on a road trip down the East coast. Staff at the front desk were very professional and very helpful.
It was convenient to the interstate although the signage for the HGI is dim and low so we drove past it twice. Not the Inns fault however, I assume it's due to local zoning. Room was very clean and the bed was very comfy....we didn't need to try any fancy bed adjustments .....and shower was excellent. We left early in AM before breakfast, so I can't comment on that. We did have good coffee, although we had to search for regular sugar as there wasn't any set out.
All in all, a very pleasant stay.

This was a very pleasant place to stay. The staff members were particularly helpful and personable. The parking area was well lit. The rooms were attractive, quiet and clean. As a single traveler, I was especially glad to note that the other guests were well mannered, which added to the overall enjoyment of the stay.

I am not what you'd call a "world traveler", and don't normally stay at high-end boutique hotels. I'm just normal folk. I just expect normal stuff at a decent price. I expect a comfortable bed, clean surroundings, friendly accommodating service, and decent food. This HGI fell into the lower end of those expectations.
I had enough points to get a half-price room, so felt the price was fine given that. Their normally very nicely adjustable beds, in this room the bed adjustable thingie did not work to adjust the bed. I was working, and did not discover this broken-bed fact until very early in the morning - during which time, with a sleeping spouse, I am NOT going to call to complain about a broken bed. (he was fine, btw, his side was set to a soft-normal, while mine was like sleeping on the floor)
But everything was clean enough. While the restaurant staff were spacy & lazy, the food was at least average (except for the balsamic viniagrette, which was warm, oily, tasteless, and nothing like any balsamic I've ever had). Breakfast was fine (great omelettes!).
Not sure what the rest of Charlottesville has to offer, but i will definitely shop around next time before settling down here again.

We chose this hotel because we hoped that its park-like setting would make it a quiet location. We had a room overlooking the little lake, and it was indeed tranquil. The room was nicely decorated in an understated way. The bed, which had adjustable firmness, was extremely comfortable, and, as a back pain sufferer, I find that to be rare. The hotel was not terribly busy, and there were only a few occupied tables in the breakfast area. The cooked-to-order entrees were a nice touch. My husband did encounter a problem with his spinach omelet, in that the spinach, while fresh, was also gritty. I enjoyed the specialty of the day, blueberry pancakes. We had gotten a special price on a room that included breakfast. The one annoyance I can report is that they claimed upon check-in that we had to pay for an additional breakfast, since our rate only included one. I checked my confirmation later, and our rate clearly stated that the quoted price was for a double room "per stay". I think that charging us for an extra breakfast was actually unethical, since we had already signed the paper accepting the quoted room rate. Not a lot of money, just not how I would expect to be treated at what was otherwise a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the lake face the back of the hotel and are very quiet.

The staff was responsive and the hotel was clean, very family friendly, and had great amenities. The breakfast offered was only 9.95 per person for all you can eat and children under 6 are free:) The location is close to Monticello and downtown Charlottesville.

Room Tip: Ask for a pond view room.

Great location in Charlottesville. Hotel has beautiful landscaping highlighted by a small lake with resident swans with an outdoor paved walking/running track. Pool and spa was exceptionally clean. A very short drive to the University of Virginia, Mr. Jefferson's university.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the lake.
