“good food, nice atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

A charming restaurant on the downtown mall in Charlottesville. Went there by recommendation from inn owners and it was lovely. The food was very good and the ambience was relaxing-not too quiet, not too loud. They had a jazz guitiarist which made for nice background music.

“Sorbet to live for...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

A lovely little place tucked in on the downtown walking mall; themed in colors of French yellow, blue glass, and terracotta decor. They have a delicious lunch and source local foods (i.e. fresh lettuce). While the cost of a lunch is expensive, the tangy sorbet alone is worth the money: a trio of little scoops of icy dessert in flavors of cantaloupe, avocado/cucumber, and raspberry. Served in an edible flower shaped buttery brickle cup that is so sweet it will make your teeth hurt. (You don't have to eat it, but it's really good.)

“Innovative, delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

We chose Hamiltons based on the website menu and TA ratings. It turned out to be even better than imagined. We sat at the bar - great cocktails- got into a conversation with the bartender who turned out to be an owner. The chef is new, about 4months or so, but he has some creative combinations and the owners have a real commitment to local and sustainable farms. We had the scallop appetizer with orange marmalade, jalapeños and avocado which was outstanding. The flavor combination was quite original. The house salad was very fresh greens with a tasty balsamic dressing - hon had the Caesar which was also quite tasty. We shared the chicken main entree. Pimento risotto was awesome, the chicken was obviously of a better quality than you normally encounter. Good selection of wines with some local vineyards that are outstanding. Wish we had had room for dessert! Would most definitely come back..thanks,Greg.

“Dinner for lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I like to dine outside on the Downtown Mall. With the chef's permission, I order filet mignon off the dinner menu. We have to negotiate on the sides because dinner menu items are not available at lunch. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is very good.

“Delicious meal, great meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We went here for our anniversary and had a really lovely meal. The cocktails were delicious and I chose the special entree (pork) which was excellent. My husband is a vegetarian and I was a bit surprised there were not more creative options for him, although they were accomodating. Service, as others have said, was really great. It is a good special occasion place.
