“Quaint and historic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

This is a great start to a historic tour day. The house had nice charm and the grounds were very pretty. The lady that did our tour was very passionate and you could tell she loved her job. So much information in a clear and interesting manner. Our 13 year old said she was very energetic! :) The man in the back spinning thread was also very personable. Just a really nice spot.

“Quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

The property has an authentic feel. The tour of the home addresses the essential elements of the president and the house. It is near Monticello and Montpelier: much more humble than those presidents' homes.

“Don't miss !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Just down the road from Monticello. My husband wanted to visit Monroe's house . I honestly thought it would be disappointing after Monitcello . I could not have been more wrong !! Beautiful place - just the entrance of ash trees makes the visit worthwhile . Our house tour was given by a UVA student - she was amazing. She was so passionate about Monroe - his life and presidential legacy. The stories she told throughout the tour were phenomenal. Beautiful land, authentic (some original ) furniture in house. ( I think I enjoyed this more than Monticello !)

“Don't miss!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

I am sure it is easy to overlook this property because of the popularity of Monticello but it was worth the trip. The tour guide was very knowledgable and the property offers lots of authentic pieces. Military admitted for free!

“Must See!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

President Monroe's home tour was worth every penny!! Our family was a little skeptical about this tour.....we had just visited President Jefferson's Monticello and Monroe's home is not as grand as Jefferson's. We, however, were not disappointed. Our tour guide was awesome. We learned so much about President Monroe. Wow.....what an amazing President. The stories were so interesting. I would suggest visiting Ash Lawn prior to seeing Monticello. It is a must see!!
