“Window on a Different World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2013

Said to house the largest collection of Aboriginal Art outside Australia, Kluge-Ruhe offers a very rare opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a culture with an astounding and radically different perception of reality. These eye-opening, mind-bending exhibitions change frequently, tempting visitors to return as often as possible.

“unusual museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

"Aboriginal" means native Australian art. Unusual collection and quite extensive. Remember, the Australian aborigines arrived some 20-40,000 years ago and lived unchanged until the 1700s. Amazing what they produced as art. Fun to see.

“A Suprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

I am not a great fan of Aboriginal art from Australia but thought this place might be interesting. It was actually quite nice and the art was fantastic. Too small is my only complaint. (And a little bit difficult to find unless you have sharp eyes to spot their sign on the highway.) An interesting person at the desk helped to make the visit better. The temporary exhibit was also good, but the permanent collection is a gem.

“World class museum in historical setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

This is one for the fine arts collectors and native arts lover - in the outskirts of Charlottesville, home of Monticello and Thomas Jefferson. John Kluge's collection is one of the most extensive collections of aboriginal art in the world, so it is very much worth seeing. We have never seen anything like this - you would have to visit whole bunch of museums and collections to see the depth and coverage of this collection.
Well worth the visit - next time you are in Charlottesville or anywhere near.

“Kluge-Ruhe Center”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

When in Charlottesville, go a little out of your way to visit this gem of a small museum set in the hills. Details about it are in my review of the University of Virginia. Director Margo Smith is wonderful--welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable about the art and the artists. Afterwards, see some of the other great museums and art spaces, like the Harrison Institute for American History, Literatuer and Culture and the Fralin Museum!
