“Kept deposit after booking another wedding on top of ours”

Prospect Hill Plantation Inn

Prospect Hill booked another wedding on the same day as ours even though we'd left a $500 deposit to "secure the day." They then pushed us to move our wedding to another day. We ended up asking for our deposit back after very peculiar and bizarre treatment by the wedding coordinator. The owner was defensive and refused to refund our deposit.

“Lovely inn. One of the most beautiful stays we have ever had at a B&B.”

I can't believe that some of the reviewers who wrote about Prospect Hill stayed at the same inn that I did. (!) My husband and I were fortunate enough to have our wedding at Prospect Hill back in April 2001, and I cannot say enough about the kindness and the courtesy of the staff and the management there.

The innkeeper, Michael Sheehan, was instrumental in orchestrating a very beautiful and lovely day for us (not to mention a five star meal). Our wedding day was pure magic from beginning to end, largely due to Michael and his attentive and professional staff. They exceeded our expectations in every possible way and continued to exceed them during the entirety of our visit. Our wedding guests still continue to talk about and rave about how lovely and memorable the experience was for them--almost four years after our wedding. (!) I have had friends who have attended big, splashy weddings at other venues tell me that none of those weddings could hold a candle to my small, simple wedding at Prospect Hill.

Prospect Hil is a first rate, five star inn. In terms of price, I respectfully submit that Prospect Hill it is on par with other fine b&bs in the area (Boar's Head and The Inn at Clifton, for example). My husband and I were graduate students at the time (and paid for our own wedding), and we could not even begin to afford those other venues. The staff and management at Prospect Hill took care of us and every little detail of our wedding. They were anything but stingy because they knew that we were graduate students, and that we had to work within our budget. They even helped out with the flowers by letting us use the fresh flowers they put out for dinner on our wedding tables (so that we could save some money).

If you are looking for a bargain price on a place to sleep, you probably aren't looking to stay at a b&b anyway. However, if you are looking for a memorable stay that you will reflect on and remember long after you have returned home, than you will find no better place to stay than Prospect Hill. My husband and I now live in Oregon, and we are saving so that we may return to Prospect Hill one day. My husband and I have stayed in many b&bs across the south and in New England, and we have found very few b&bs that were as warm, friendly, and lovely as this place. I urge anyone staying near the Richmond or Charlottesville area to discover Prospect Hill. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

My boyfriend and I had wonderful and relaxing experience at Prospect Hill! We definitly recommend staying in the Summer Kitchen cottage, it had a rustic/cozy yet romantic feel to the it. We checked the other rooms the following day and were extremely happy that he chose this specific room. We thought the place was very well kept and the inn keeper and staff to be very resourceful. Dinner was also very good and the service was on point. This was the perfect place for us for Valentine's Day/Birthday (surprise)! It's a ways away in the country, but well worth it!

“Fabulous, romatic inn”

We had a marvelous stay at Prospect Hill to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our room (former slaves' quarters) was quaint and comfy. The fireplace was stacked and ready to go and there was fruit and wine waiting for us. The staff was attentive and gracious without being instrusive. We enjoyed meeting other guests during the wine reception, and dinner was delicious. It is expensive, but is a wonderful splurge for special occasions.

“Very nice, a bit too expensive, but worth it.”

Their website is honest - I was afraid it was too well done and that the place wouldn't be so nice, but it's a beautiful, quiet setting. The rooms are nice, the pool refreshing, and the breakfast was really tasty. I think it's too expensive, but you can skip their $100 dinner and just get the cheapest room fro $200 - still too much but there's little in the area that I found that looks nice.

I imagine they might indeed be greedy/stingy, as the previous reviews suggest, but if you're 100% you're going and aren't worried about cancellations, it's a nice place.
