“From OK to Good”

We have a split opinion in my household. I favored the location, right across the street from a unique city market, and give high marks to the breakfast, snacks, porch setting, wireless and tv, and comfortable bed; the staff is very attentive. My wife is critical of the room and bathroom fixtures and wall condition, and compared to other inns we have stayed - not bad but not a very good value for the cost. If we wanted that location again, we would return, but otherwise we would check out some alternatives.

We stayed in a room in the cottage for 2 nights and had a delightful time. We arrived after the official wine and cheese hour, but were prepared our own personal plate of cheese and crackers and given a bottle of wine that we took onto the patio to enjoy. A great way to unwind after our travels. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the homemade cookies, the yummy breakfast and the wine and cheese hour add to the feeling that we are being taken care of. The location was just right for us 2 blocks from the downtown mall and close to many wonderful restaurants. The only negative is the train that runs close by several times a day, but this didn't bother us much, since the inn is in a quiet spot otherwise. We'll definitely be returning sometime soon!

Room Tip: Be sure to get some tapas at Bang! which is right across the street from the inn. We ordered 4 and t...

Great place! Clean and comfortable with staff that are pleasant and accomodating. The wine and cheese on the porch is especially appreciated after a long day on campus and a great way to recharge for an evening down town. Breakfast is great and there are warm cookies are exceptionally tasty!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique.

This inn maintains strong service standards. Easy and friendly check inn/out, clean rooms with comfortable temperatures thoughtfully ready, and practical character are a few areas of service that stand out. The wine and cheese evening hours and breakfast are quality driven and prepared on premise. By far my favorite Charlottesville stay.

We stayed at South Street Inn for six nights in late April / early May as part of our trip to Charlottesville to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found the location to be very convenient, as we were within easy walking distance of several excellent restaurants and the shops on the downtown mall, and relatively near the UVA campus. We enjoyed breakfast at the inn each morning before starting our day's activities, and we made sure to be back in time to have afternoon wine and cheese before going back out to dinner. Our ground floor suite in the cottage adjacent to the main inn was very spacious, and due to some mobility issues we appreciated the limited number of steps to enter and exit the building. For others with mobility issues, it should be noted that while there are only a couple of steps up to the cottage entrance, there are eight or so steps up to the front porch of the main inn, so getting to the delicious breakfasts in the morning and the wine and cheese in the afternoon will require a bit more effort. As other reviewers have noted, the inn is adjacent to railroad tracks, and two or three trains may pass by during the night. This wasn't a major issue for us, as we'd wake up and hear a train, then fall back to sleep after it passed. The convenience of the inn's location outweighed the inconvenience of the occasional sleep interruptions for us. When we asked the staff for recommendations they were always willing to check the internet for local restaurants and attractions, and some offered personal suggestions as well. As we spent most of each day away from the inn, housekeeping services had been completed by the time we returned each afternoon. If we return to Charlottesville for a future visit, we'll definitely stay at South Street Inn again.

This is my second stay at the Inn and I love how accommodating they were to questions/requests/needs. The rooms are comfortable and privacy is easy to achieve. The breakfast and atmosphere invite you to linger and enjoy. My definite go to place when I want to indulge a bit.

After visiting Monticello, we drove to Charlotteville to find an accomodation. Following what our guide suggested we headed to 200 South Street Inn where we were lucky to find an availability. You enter the hotel as entering home. The smell of cookies in the lobby, the living room with people chatting, drinking wine and having some chease, all this creates a very wellcoming feeling. The rooms are nice, bathrooms OK, bed very comfortable. We had breakfast in the living room and it was very good.
The location is great (2 blocks from pedestrian street), parking very easy and free in the yard of the Inn. WIFI works well. Guests have to know that some time long trains pass along and make the house vibrate. But the place is that charming that you forgive this inconvenient.
