“Fun Place, I'd Go Back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

Friends and I stayed at the Inn early in September--the weekend of the UVa/Penn State football game. We opted for the Inn due to its great location--we're not really cute inn people. I'd been to there before--in a rare exception to my 'no cute inn' rule--and was hoping that it was as nice as I remembered it. I needed have worried at all, it was still the same delightful spot. Our rooms were very attractive and comfortable, the staff friendly and attentive, and the continental breakfast and snacks were quite tasty. too.
Interacting with the other guests at breakfast or over drinks on the patio added quite a lot to our stay. So, if you're there for a convention of misanthropes, well.....actually, no hotel is going to make that a good time!
Staying in downtown Charlottesville means you're within walking distance of lots of fun places to eat, drink, and shop. Yes, the train tracks are right behind the hotel, but I actually found that rather amusing than bothersome--and I'm not the kind of guy who can sleep through anything.
I've stayed in lots of places in Charlottesville--chain hotels on Rte 29 or near the University, and even snooty bed and breakfasts (what was I thinking?!). 200 South Street is a favorite and I'm looking forward to returning again.

Had 3 lovely nights in Suite 24. ( the building beside the main house) Reading previous reviews I was concerned about how close we were to the train line but to be truthful we weren't that bothered by it ( & my partner is a light sleeper ), in fact the 8am Freight train acted as a nice morning alarm for us. The location is perfect for the Historic Downtown pedestrian mall - but don't neglect the City District, there are some excellent dining opportunities.
200 SS is a wonderful alternative to any chain hotel, with touches that are worth that little bit extra ( wine & cheese each afternoon, cookies by reception that I did not indulge in enough ! ). Sure it's not 100% immaculate & if you look for faults in paintwork & tiling you'll fine them. With everything on your doorstep look no further if you want to experience home-style Virginia. We will certainly be returning to the area.
PS - Check out Arcady Wine Tours as your winery guide & Monticello Country Ballooning for the birdseye view of wonderful Charlottesville.

We booked this bed and breakfast based on Trip Advisor reviews and the reviews reflected the quality of service and location we read about. We loved the proximity of the Inn to the downtown pedestrian mall and the fresh cookies, wine and cheese each afternoon. Breakfast was also pleasing. The reception was attentive to our requests and concerns(tub did not retain water in Room 14).

On the down side for those of us who rise early and need morning coffee - nothing available before 7:30. We usually make our own, but the location of plugs and compactness of the room did not facilitate this. After having fridge, microwave and safes in similarly priced hotel rooms, we missed these features. We have also had 24/7 coffee service - or early service- in other B and Bs.

In summary, a very good B and B, tastefully decorated, high on atmosphere, less so on amenities.

Room Tip: I chose the cottage rooms because I had a handicapped traveler with me and wanted a first floor room...

The location was perfect, the room was great, and the food/hospitality/wine/people were so much more than expected. I really wish we could have stayed more than one night! We chatted up multiple people during the happy hour and got some good tips. Always having fresh baked cookies was a bad thing for me, but they also had lots of fresh fruit on hand for breakfast/happy hour so I really can't complain at all.

Room Tip: Our blue room was perfect.

We loved everything about the hospitality and the accomodation. Plus the area is magnificent.
We would definitely return to this area and highly recommend for families or any event.

The university grounds are magnificent and the Pedestrian Mall is wonderful as well

We loved being 2 blocks from the downtown plaza - with all the wonderful outdoor restaurants. We also enjoyed the micro-brewery next door and the Saturday AM farmers market across the street. The inn keepers made us feel very comfortable. Complementary warm cookies and a very nice wine and cheese greeted us upon arrival. We enjoyed people watching from the front porch. The bedroom was fine and the bedroom was very comfortable. This building is old and a bit tired looking with chipping paint in some locations. I would not suggest this to someone who requires all the modern conveniences offered from the bigger/nicer hotel chains. We still found the stay very comfortable. The continental breakfast was outstanding with lots of fresh fruit, fresh baked goods, cereal and yogurt. Again, we enjoyed the inn and the inn keepers very much and will return if we go back to the area.

Room Tip: We paid a bit less because we were in a basement room and while we travel with a small white noise m...

nice rooms and great hosts--with evening wine & cheese, morning breakfast, and afternoon cookies! we had a small issue with our room that was dealt with, quickly, professionally, and beyond our satisfaction.

2 blocks from the downtown mall and a parking lot of our car made this a great launching point for our trip to c-ville. Thanks 200 South St Inn!

Room Tip: The staff helped us picked the room we wanted based on what we were looking for--just ask them!
