Marriott's slogan for their chain of extended stay hotels is "It's not a room, it's a residence." And when we checked in to their property outside of DC, our family was impressed with how well Marriott lives up to that ideal.
"Free candy!" My daughter exclaimed when we entered our room. She could not believe the homey touch of a candy jar on the sitting area coffee table; she's used to hotel mini-bars that charge exorbitant prices for snacks.
Our room was modern, clean and spacious, with a good-sized kitchenette, small dining table, desk, sitting area, and flat-screen TV. Our room included a queen bed and pull-out for our daughter. The bathroom and closet were larger than we expected.
Other nice touches include a basketball court on the grounds near the pool area. This is not something we would ever use, but we saw other families enjoying this particular amenity the next morning, after we had our fill of the Residence Inn's buffet breakfast.
That breakfast was another surprise, as I was expecting a measly continental and instead discovered a full morning meal: choices included fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, waffles, bagels, muffins and both hot and cold cereal. Not too shabby,
We were pleased with our stay at the Residence Inn and look forward to staying at other properties.
