“Nice Place for Catching an Early Flight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2012

We planned to go to an event in downtown DC and then catch a flight from Dulles the next day. The Courtyard worked out very well. Upon arrival, our reservations were correct but they offered us a choice of floor and type of room that would best suit us for no additional charge. The front desk people were outstanding. The room was a typical Courtyard room - modern and spotless. Checkout was a breeze. Even though the hotel is only a few minutes from Dulles, we had no problem with airport noise. The only downside is that it is a bit far from DC on a road with lots of traffic lights. However, that was only a minor inconvenience.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor near the back and did not hear any airport or road noise.

It was an unplanned trip ... our flight was late from Dulles which would make us miss our connection at Zurich. United cited weather as the reason for not providing accommodation - so I looked up the nearest Marriott for the night. Paid the full rate :(

But, the stay was very comfortable. The reception was very helpful, friendly and most importantly cheerful. Room was perfect - with a kitchenette, breakfast as always was hearty and they let us checkout at 3pm. We went back to the airport fresh and rested.

I am going to stay here on my next planned trip to DC :)

I booked 2 nights here with a Marriot rewards card for $55/night. The rooms were clean and comfortable although a little small for a family of 4. We were visiting Washington so it was a bit of a drive. The day we spent sightseeing we parked at the Vienna/Fairfax station and took the train in. this was a good idea as it's much easier to get around the city this way.

Very friendly staff, clean rooms, looks like they recently updated the hotel. I did not try out the breakfast and dining area so cant comment on that. Only negative was that there is not a whole lot of selection for food outside the hotel. (In walking distance). I will use this location again!

We chose this location because we knew we wanted to visit the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center. From beginning to end we had a pleasant stay, though the hotel's emphasis on business travelers did come into play for our family.

The service was consistently good to excellent. When we checked in, we were surprised that there was no kind of desk or dresser in the bedroom of the suite. The staff was very quick to provide a desk and chair so my husband could work in the bedroom while our son was sleeping on the sofabed in the main room. The Bistro staff were also very good and very patient with slow and sleepy ordering. Our maid could have been a little more thorough--she didn't replace our shampoo/conditioner every day even though there were three of us in the room. We had absolutely no problems accessing or using the free wifi.

The suite itself had comfortable beds and furniture and everything was functioning. The climate control could use some help as it seems to be less sensitive than what we're used to--it was either mildly stuffy or mildly chilly with no happy medium to be found.

The pool facilities were all right. There was the usual small indoor pool, but it was not heated at all during our visit in spite of temperatures outside being a bit below normal. It made the heated whirlpool feel that much better, but still made swimming a bit difficult. It was also a bit difficult because the hours catered to business travelers and the pool did not open until 5pm on weekdays.

The lobby area is inviting, with complimentary coffee/tea, computer units, and an ATM. The Bistro restaurant prepares good breakfasts with huge portions on the platters and a variety of fresh ingredients like fruit and yogurt. The dinner selection is limited but generally well-prepared. They have a limited Starbucks bar, but tread carefully--these aren't Starbucks baristas. Once my hot chocolate was weak to the point of being undrinkable.

Overall, given the choice we would stay here again if we needed to be in the area. The only down side to the location is the distance from the nearest Metro station to go into D.C. and that may be solved once the Silver Line is completed. The hotel does offer shuttle service to Dulles and to the Udvar-Hazy museum but I don't know if that service extends to the Metro station in Vienna.

Rooms were okay. Would have appreciated higher quality bedding and pillows. Also disgusting stains all on the carpet in our room so didn't want to take my shoes off. The Lobby is quite nice- just would much prefer nicer rooms if they could only do one.
They do after free airport shuttles which was nice and staff was friendly.
Biggest disappointment- as being a gold Marriott member im used to free breakfast and room upgrades- not available here. They have a breakfast place there but wasn't included!

The decor of our room was so surprisingly beautiful that we were bound to have a great stay from the very start. The very comfortable king bed was awesome, the pillows very nice, all alongside a really comfy couch located beside the balcony...which you could actually walk out on! The large flat screen tv was very nice. I loved the fact that the sink area was located outside of the toilet/shower room, all of which was very nicely decorated as well. We did laundry ($2.00 for washer, $2.00 for dryer) and the front desk provides laundry soap & dryer sheets for free. Excellent staff - very friendly and helpful. There was shockingly very little airplane noise for being located so close to Dulles. The location is very nice, right along route 50 with lots of food options. Not too far from the Vienna metro stop - we paid $4.50 to park there for the day and took the metro all over DC. Free wifi was awesome! If only there had been a free breakfast...

I would definitely stay here again, a beautiful hotel!

Room Tip: King size room was great as we were staying for 2 nights, 3 days. Ample space to spread out luggage...
