“Great place for kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

In the summer they have a kids entertainment series, Saturdays at 10am. There is also a nice walking path in a wooded area. We haven't made it yet to the other events but they have a wagon ride through a creek or stream, and other nature hikes.

“Nice for locals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

It's a lovely park, but not special enough to drive out of your way. The kids love the pond and looking at the fish and frogs. The nature center has tanks with frogs and snakes and bugs and a little play area for the very young. There's a smokehouse and garden to walk around and taking a tour to see the old ice house and old building foundations is interesting. If you have young kids, make sure to check out the Saturday morning park programs, featuring puppet shows and orchestra and band demonstrations. The hiking paths are well-maintained and it's a lovely, easy walk - with a couple different paths. I think it's a great place for locals and especially for those with little kids.

“Frogs and lily pads”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

Lovely park for families and kids....stroll through the paths and look for some wildlife...There's a pond with frogs and lily pads and you can even see tadpoles swimming....Couples stroll across the bridge and there's an opportunity to check out a small museum. Loads of shade and serenity.

“Nice place to kill some time”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

My kids love to walk around the old buildings here (smoke house, remains of an ice house, etc.). There are nice hiking trails through the woods, and a little nature center with a few animals (snakes, toads) and hands-on exhibits (touch snake skins, microscopes, etc.). They occasionally have relatively low-cost children's classes as well. A nice place to go for an afternoon of nature.

“Good athletic fields”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

This review is for the athletic fields of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, which are located off Route 28 a couple miles from the park headquarters on Walney Road. The fields have to be reserved. Reservations can be made either on line or by calling a telephone number--see the Fairfax County Park Authority web site.

Regarding athletic fields, this is a fairly impressive complex. The park has baseball, softball and soccer fields that are well maintained, plus fitness stations, fitness trails, an outdoor kiddie play area and hiking trails. Portable toilets and trash receptacles are available. Lots of parking is available.
