“Overpriced, family friendly, decent wine”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

The wines were better than I expected for a relatively new northern Virginia winery, but they were overpriced. Of course, overpriced wines are par for the course for Virginia wineries, but the tasting itself was more overpriced than usual ($12 vs. a more typical $8 at a VA winery, and not many wines). It's in a beautiful location, and is more family friendly than most wineries. Kids are welcome play outside with balls and Frisbees in a large, fielded area why parents sit at outdoor picnic tables and sip. Enjoy the tasting inside a large, comfortable tasting room. If you want to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon with the spouse and kids, this is an ideal choice. You won't feel uncomfortable bringing your kids there. If it's just you and a date, you'd do better to try another winery that is more intimate and has better wines for your dollar.

“I would skip it if I were you!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

I got a living social deal for $22. Sounds great right? Except that it doesn't apply to ANY of the alcohol. Who goes to a winery not intending to drink? It said it included glasses a snack and a $24 dollar gift shop credit. The gift shop does not include any of the wine and everything is extremely over priced. But I told myself, oh well you fell for a bad deal with too much fine print give it a chance! That's where I went wrong.
The place was crowded and it was a beautiful day, the atmosphere was pleasant and the picnic tables were a nice touch. However, the staff rushed you through the tasting which for $12 dollars was hardly a sip of each wine. Additionally, the wines were not very good personally I wouldn't purchase a bottle of any of them for drinking. The first waitress we had was nice but the then one of the managers took over her sections and I was shocked at how rude she was. I know it was crowded but that is no reason to ignore paying guests. Finally, we completed the tasting and paid for our snacks. Then we waited, and waited, and waited. We were ignored repeatedly when I tried to get the managers attention while we were still waiting on our snacks and glasses an then when I finally did get the waitresses attention she treated it like it was our fault. Finally, we went to sit at a picnic table outside and the only ones we found were dirty. Again I know it was a busy day but still they could have made sure the tables were cleaned off.
Overall, I would skip this winery, the battlefield was nice but I would go to Barrel Oak or one of the other nearby wineries if I were you!

Thank you for your feedback. At The Winery at Bull Run we strive to make your experience as comfortable as possible. We understand there has been considerable confusion with the Groupon and Living Social offerings. The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control dictates that to pre-sell any alcoholic beverage is illegal. We have asked Groupon and Living Social to change the verbiage we submitted to “a Gift Card” and it is no longer a problem. We are also pleased to hear from a number of purchasers of the offering that it is still a great deal. In addition, as a new winery we are still looking to improve everyday. We are sorry that you felt ignored, we hope that you will join us again and so that we can provide a better experience for you!

“Expensive Winery!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is kind, but the wine and prices are not compatible. I would say, try it out for yourself, but check the wine prices online and be prepared to pay more here than in most other NOVA wineries.

“Great atmosphere, so-so wines”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Great great atmosphere. Small property compared to some western wineries but close to city so easily accessible. Large lawn for warmer weather, large interior for cooler weather. Most winery interiors are so small. 2pm on a Saturday was like a late night bar in DC! Wine tasting is very expensive, wines are not great, they don't make their own wines. Even the Living Social promotion doesn't make it worth it.

“$$$$$$$”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012 via mobile

$12 bucks for wine tasting is too much! Also amount of each tasting is too little. View is nice but look elsewhere.

Thank you for your feedback. As far as the tasting goes, our staff is instructed to pour the official 1 ounce pour for tastings, but you are more than welcome to ask for a second taste of any of the wines during your tasting. We hope that you've been back since your last visit!
