“Great curb appeal...but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

This place has great bones and in very pretty surroundings.
We had a suite for two nights and it was comfortable but looked as though it hadn't
been vacuumed or dusted for a while. No soap or soap dish on the bathroom vanity.
The wall decor was weird...missing or in the wrong place and the iron didn't work. Mildew in the shower.
These are little things but little things mean a lot. We were told they had renovated last
year but it just didn't seem that way. The common rooms, where they put out a very nice breakfast snack, were wonderful. The lady who ran the front desk was so very nice and helpful and I feel bad for saying the negative things but I'm hoping they
keep closer check and make this place the way it could and should be.

We live very close to this resort, and our water went out. I called, and from that point forward, our treatment and stay was amazing. We were put in a room close to the pool and spa (which are saltwater, which is amazing) and the lights were turned on for us, as we were one of the few couples there. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were huge and the bathroom was amazing. Just a wonderful stay, and we plan to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for the handicap rooms. The showers could fit a whole family :)

My husband & I received a gift from my son for a one night stay. We had never heard of the place but we were pleasantly surprised. It is tucked away in a beautiful country setting. The inn is about 11 years old, so it is a modern building. There is a spa next door which we did not use. The king room was large, had comfortable bedding, a large bathroom with two sinks, and a large walk in shower. There was also a small porch with a table and two chairs. I would like to have used the porch, but it was a little too chilly out during our visit. For warmer weather there is a nice pool and a whirlpool. The whirlpool was open. There is also a spa lounge with a door to the pool. There are lounges in there with towels and a gas fireplace. The room provided two very nice robes and waterproof sandals. There is a large HD TV with many station offerings. The towels were nice and fluffy. Breakfast is continental and served in the living room. The items included: scones, croissants, muffins, bagels, various jams, milk, three juices, granola, nuts, coffee, tea, and a nice fruit plate. The breakfast was very nice and we socialized with other guests. In nice weather, you could take your breakfast and eat on your porch. The staff was very nice and accommodating. An overnight staff person made my husband coffee at 3 am! The restaurant is next door and walking distance. It is call the Manor House and I have reviewed it separately. That building dates back to the Revolution. I highly recommend this wonderful place to get away from it all. On my next visit, I will try some of the spa offerings. There is also free wifi.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor and liked it.

This is a special place, and deserves a long visit. The building is an old residence, but looks like a European castle. I recommend you start with a drink in bar/tavern. In cold weather, there will be a fire in the huge stone fireplace. The drinks a very reasonably priced for a high end place like the Springs, so have two! If you have the time (and I recommend you make the time) as for a tour of the building. The view of the dining room from upstairs gives you a better picture of where you will be dining.

By now, you should be ready for dinner. I recommend you ask for advice from the wine list, even if you see your favorite bottle there. Let the staff advise you for a good bottle - the list is full of great surprises! You will find a varied menu (I had the tuna - cooked perfect for me, medium, and a large portion of beautiful fresh red tuna).

And don't skip desert!

This was such a beautiful retreat for my birthday. It was so romantic. They dinner was amazing. The staff in the bar so accommodating. Built us a fire even though we were the only ones in the bar. Very nice. Beautiful room. We loved it.

Room Tip: This is for romance, not families.

My daughter and I had a wonderful, special overnight at this stunning Inn. Besides two perfect massages at the Spa, we enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Manor House of Poplar Springs. Polly Cutting, the Inn manager, could NOT be nicer. Continental Breakfast is served in the Inn's lovely living room. Nanci, our waitress at dinner, was especially delightful. My massage with April was one of the best. The whole experience was wonderful. We topped it off by a quick trip to Warrenton, which is great for shopping, browsing around, and having a quick bite for lunch before returning to DC.

Poplar Springs Inn and Spa provides fantastic customer service with their spa packages and hotel accommodations. Both the spa and hotel room had soft terry cloth robes (not those heavy bulky robes at other resorts), and comfortable YeahBaby spa sandals in the locker room and hotel closet (sized for both men and women). Our room had a large shower with great shower pressure and a temperature gauge for a really hot shower! The continental breakfast was great - fresh large croissants and muffins, a wonderful fruit assortment (lots of berries) and good selection of juices. The room included DirecTV (over limited cable at most resorts), and nice turndown service, and a hand-written welcome note from the hotel manager. They had a nice wine-tasting on Saturday night, which we really enjoyed. We had lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch at the Manor House, and thoroughly enjoyed the menu and ambience of the beautiful Manor House dining room. As locals, we'll definitely visit again and recommend to friends.
