“Quiet town, Quiet B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2008

We stayed at the Bridgewater B&B for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in the "Inn". Our quarters were clean and cozy and included a small kitchen, living room area, bath and bedroom with a King size bed. Breakfast was very good and we always had a choice (french toast, omlettes, biscuits & gravy, etc.). I would recommend you purchase any drinks/groceries you may need for your stay. With breakfast we only got one OJ. The furnishings were old-fashioned and the inn is definitely pet-friendly. Our rooms had a bit of a dog musty smell. The B&B does have a hot tub, but since it's in a communal area, we didn't feel it was private enough to use. Pros were big comfy bed and kitchenette. Cons were no cable TV in bedroom (just DVDs) and the hot tub. Bridgewater is a very SMALL town, but we enjoyed eating at Francescos which literally is one block from the B&B. 2 wineries are close by; CrossKeys and Barren Ridge. This B&B is in the Shenadoah Valley, not the mountains. The Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive is about 30 minutes away, Charlottesville about an hour. This B&B is good for older couples or anyone needing a place to stay for Bridgewater College or JMU. Not recommended for younger guests.

I adore this Inn. My husband and I travel often and have stayed at B&B's all over the US and Canada and this is my favorite. In fact, we have spent every wedding anniversary here for the past 6 years.

We stay in the Cottage Suite and it is extremely comfortable and casually elegant. The kitchenette, private entrance and porch, and jacuzzi make it perfect for an extended stay. Mary is a wonderful hostess and an amazing cook. The breakfast in bed, delivered every morning right to the suite, is delicous and a perfect way to start the day.

The town of Bridgewater is pretty quiet, but the Inn is ideally situated and is a short drive from many great wineries.

My husband and I stayed one night at this lovely B&B during a quick weekend getaway. We stayed in the Cottage Suite, which has a separate entrance in the back of the property. The suite was quite large, with a kitchen area, day bed, and living room with TV (lots of movies/dvd's to watch) and fireplace. The bed was adjacent to the living area.

The bathroom was not large, but did have a large jacuzzi tub for two, which was very appreciated after a day of hiking in the Shenandoah Mountains. The towels were large and fluffy, and there were also bathrobes in the closet.

We did not use the kitchen (except to keep our drinks cold), or the fireplace (since it was too warm.) My only complaint was that the furniture in the living area was all antique (quite beautiful) but not very comfortable. No worries - we chose to just lounge on the fluffy and luxurious king size bed instead.

Breakfast was served in the room, at the time of our choosing. We had ample food - a large omlet, muffins, and fruit. It was VERY good! For dinner the night before we walked to a resturant right around the corner for a decent meal.

In all, we would recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a getaway along Rt. 81 (about 30 minutes from Skyline Drive, and just an exit down the interstate from Harrisonburg.) Note: if you stay only one night on a weekend, you will be charged an extra $45 (which Mary reminded us when booking the room.) This fee makes the stay reasonable, but not quite as good of a bargin that you would get if staying more than one night or during the week.

  • Liked — bed and jacuzzi tub
  • Disliked — uncomfortable antique furniture in living area
