“Best Value in Blacksburg!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2010

This is a great place to stay if you're simply looking for a hotel to sleep, shower and change. We have season tickets to Virginia Tech Football Games and always stay here. The owner and his wife are very nice, the rooms are always clean, and, unlike most all hotels in Blacksburg, you can actually walk to downtown; it's about a mile. If you're not up to it, the South Main Street bus stops just at the corner. It has the basics, TV, WiFi, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and coffee every morning in the lobby. There's also a new shopping center across the street with restaurants and different types of shops. Red Carpet Inn may not be the fanciest hotel in Blacksburg, but you can't beat the price; most all other hotels are double!

Great value. Not s super fancy place but everything works in the room, it is clean and comfortable and the price is great. The mattresses are some of the best (we like firm) that we have ever had in a hotel at any price. Checkout is easy for us. We paid with a credit card and were told just to leave our key cards in the room when we left. We did not even have to go to the office. The rules against pets are enforced; my guess is that sometimes causes hard feelings. Looking for a downside? I wish the AC was a bit more quiet on max cool/max fan. The owners are very nice. About 3 years ago, my wife was there and noticed that the ice machine was broken. The owner said that she could buzz the office anytime for some .My wife wanted ice at 1 am and woke up the owner and he got some from his own freezer. NOTE: The ice machine works now. :-) In summary, this is our first choice every time we go to Blacksburg.

Ok, the motel (I wouldn't even call it a hotel. It's not even close to one being one.) has the basics, TV, Wireless internet, a microwave and a mini-fridge. They also have room service everyday.

I'll start with the internet first. Sucks, you get disconnected all the time, and sometimes for one whole day. You tell the front desk, they'll tell you yeah. They're fixing it. Hours later, it's still not fixed. And it happens again next week.

The mini-fridge wasn't cleaned, and the ice compartment was totally frozen up, and dirty with some black muck on the edges. It was big enough for like 2 cartons of milk? And not to mention they'll freeze up your milk despite turning the temperature to the lowest. And even then, it seems the fridge isn't totally working. Sometimes i open it and i get frozen milk, and sometimes room temperature milk.

The room service? Oh great. They change your towels everyday and make your beds as well. Not to mention they'll simply try to walk in on you without even knocking. They have the access card you know. Which means, no privacy, and high possibilities of accidental intrusions.

Bathroom is infested with bugs. Every now and then i'll find something that's crawled into the bathroom through the bathtub's hole.

The person at the front desk wasn't exactly friendly as well. Had a difficult time communicating with them.

This motel is certainly simple, but it's very conveniently located (South Main Street bus just at the corner) and it's cheaper than other offers in Blacksburg. The bed was comfortable, cleanliness was adequate, the room was large, the plumbing worked and so did the air conditioning. Free wi-fi.

The décor is plain, yes, but for that price are you expecting designer furniture?

The Red Carpet Inn is in a good location, close to campus, close to many eating establishments, and close to the off campus housing on the southside of campus. The rates were very good when I stayed there.

My room was a good size and I found the bed comfortable. The pillows were a little thicker than cardboard, but two together seemed to a good solution. My room had a microwave and a fridge which appeared to be new. Overall the room was clean, but if you looked in the corners there was some pretty good dust. The television frame was very dirty, looked as if someone had shake a coke can and opened it in front of the television. The bathroom was very old. Looked like it was from the 60s. Some mold on the bottom of the shower curtain. In the little dressing room area it looked as if they had cleared out the area where you would hang your clothes. So there was no place to do that. The walls are thin so you could any noise coming from the outside. The wireless worked very well, no complaints here.

The outside looks a little rough. They were doing some work while I was there. I believe there is an outside pool under the cover, but I am not sure what they were doing to that area. It is a basic motor hotel with all the doors opening outside. The staff was very polite. There is not any type of free breakfast. Need to be careful coming up the entrance because it is very steep.

We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn in Blacksburg, as all of the other Hotels in the area were completely booked. It looks a little shady, but I figured, I've stayed in worse. We checked in, the afternoon, dropped our stuff off, and enjoyed the town. Upon returning to our room in the evening, we got ready for bed, but within 10 minutes my fiance's throat closed up due to some sort of reaction in the room (she has NO known allergies). We notified the manager/owner that we had to leave due to this, and were refused a refund. They claimed because we used the bathroom (to brush our teeth), they had to clean the room, and couldn't offer us any sort of refund for the night. We were eventually begrudgingly refunded the second night, but only after being told there must be something wrong with us if we couldn't breath in the room.
After almost suffocating, having to find another place to stay at 3am, and then being told we are trying to steal from them, I would strongly recommend to avoid this hotel at all costs

Overall. outside appearance of hotel was in bad shape. Rooms were barely adequate. I will say, however, that the person at the desk was very nice and friendly. I would never stay there again, but it was the night before a Hokie football game, and all other hotels were booked.
