This is my second stay within the last 12 months. Two great stays. Rooms are clean, beds very comfortable and staff courteous and helpful. I'll continue to come back.

We went to Blacksburg as first time parents for VT move in. Boy did we make a mistake. All the hotels were full...(guess we'll make reservations next time). We make one last stop at the Hawthorne, they were full also. The helpful desk clerk (cant remember her name told us about having three 4pm holds. Apparently hotels cancel rooms that have not been held with a credit card at 4:00. She told us about the area and asked if we would like her to recommend a resturant close by. She took our cell number and about 1 hour later called us with the good news!!! We finished our meal and went to check in. The room was nice, almost like a two room suite but not divided by a door. Great stay and great friendly staff.

p.s. if you do stay, ask for the mountain side view...GREAT

Liked: Hotel is close (a few minutes drive) to VA Tech, the room/suite is quite large with a desk and small eating/working table, it was clean and the bed was comfy. Check in and out went smoothly with friendly staff. Free internet was easy to use. Free breakfast was ok, there was a waffle maker and a few hot items. Didn't like: the bathroom was small, with the sink counter out in the bedroom area. Also the fire alarm was in the bedroom section and had an annoying blinking light. Misc comments: the indoor pool and fitness room were small but nice. Parking was fine. Gas station close by but no walking distance restaurants. It has a small snack shop attached to lobby desk. There is only 1 TV that could be turned and viewed from bedroom or sitting room.

Great staff. Great breakfast. Great location if you plan to visit Virginia Tech. All the rooms are suites and have a mini-kitchen.

I'm a frequent traveler and have stayed in many hotels. Never have I experienced a bigger nightmare than I did here. Stayed ONE night for business, awoke to hundreds of blistering sores all over my body. Doctor confirmed it was bedbugs. Had to throw away my nice Tumi luggage for fear it too was contaminated. Steam cleaned all my clothes. Had to visit the doctor 3-4 times because the sores took MONTHS to go away. Not kidding. Scars still present a year later. After many, many calls to the management and insurance company I was finally given nominal payment in exchange for not pursuing a case against them. The worst part is they knew this problem existed as I found out online after my stay. Several other people had the same experience. Ultimately, a visitor brought them into the hotel but it is their responsibility to insure all guests are safe and not exposed to bedbugs. Worst hotel experience of my life.

The group block hotel for a local conference, it wasn't bad. I've stayed at something similar that had been turned into a Hyatt Suites and was so very cool. Where this hotel falls down, is on halfway done renovations (there was mildew in my tub), and cheap materials chosen for renovations.

The bed was comfy enough, the TV was nice, the accomodations were OK. Lets just say, the Hyatt Place in Nashville, whose rooms had the same layot and were only $25 more per night were much more chic.

The staff was fairly helpful, though sorely understaffed (one person at the desk at 9pm, for a fairly large hotel)

Would I stay there by choice? Probably not. But for a work trip that was one night, it was OK.

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now on business and the experience is the same. It's a decent but not fabulous hotel.

The room I stayed in this time was again clean and quiet. It's a small suite set up with ample room for two people. Any more than that and it's a bit much.

The hotel is starting to show a little where and tear, at least the room I was in this time appeared that way. But I imagine this hotel is booked quite frequently with home football games, parent weekends, etc.

The employees at check in were nice and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to others.
