“Love it. Only problem: noisy heat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I love the Main Street Inn. As others have pointed out, it's centrally located, provides roomy accommodations, with a separate little living room with a pull-out couch. Clean, well-maintained, excellent cheerful service.

The only ding that I have: The Main Street Inn has failed to solve what I admit is a difficult technical problem that every hotelier faces: how to provide each room with individual heating and cooling, without sound. In the case of the Main Street Inn, the heating obediently maintains the temperature that you set it to, by cycling the system on and off. The problem is that the bed is right next to the heat-pump device, and so it made it hard to sleep.

But I still love it, and will go back.

Room Tip: rooms on the east side, facing away from the street, are quieter.

Wahoo.............gone are the low, poorly designed and poorly flushing toilets.
We stayed on the east side during this visit and had a king suite. For our 9 day stay we appreciated more room. This side of the hotel seemed quieter (street noise), but then the campus had cleared out for Christmas vacation.
We consider Main Street our "lttle inn," as we love the convenience, friendliness, and efficiency of the staff. We are frequent visitors to Hokieville

Room Tip: The king suites are roomier--if you need the sleep sofa, I would get the larger suites.

There's no better place to be if you are visiting a Hokie. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, Main Street Inn is right in the heart of things with the important benefit of free parking during your stay.

Our room was impeccably clean. Beds were comfortable with linens of excellent quality. Internet worked well. Room was quiet, but there were no major events going on during our stay. The rooms in the front of the hotel might be noisy during a football weekend. The bedroom was adequately sized. The sitting room is VERY tight if the sofa bed is put into service.

We experienced some small service shortfalls but the staff recovered them well. We checked in late in the afternoon, so there was plenty of time for the room to be serviced. There was no bedding in our room for the sofa bed, but the bedding was delivered promptly after the front desk was notified. The amenities were standard quality, but we had no shampoo or soap (we did, however, have lots of conditioner) although a trip to the front desk remedied the situation. Our bill was not adjusted the first time our credit card was charged to reflect the rate on the room confirmation we brought with us and it had to be processed twice.

Small boutique hotels often can't offer breakfast for various reasons, but they usually make up for it with exemplary service. The Main Street Inn provided a generally good experience but not a flawless one. Nonetheless, it's a good option for a reasonable price given central Blacksburg's limited lodging capacity.

Hotel has the feeling of a small, elegant lodging. Room layout was superior - one small bedroom, one small sitting room, bathroom between. The color scheme and decor was elegantly done; the amenities in the bath were standard. Each room had its own flat-screen TV mounted on the wall. Some minor problems with the room were quickly addressed by the friendly and apologetic staff. VERY comfortable bed; reasonably comfortable chairs in the sitting room/wet bar area. There is no restaurant associated with the Inn, but there's a Starbucks right across the screen, and multiple area restaurants within easy distance. 35 rooms; under-building parking for about 10 cars, with free (they'll pick up the fee) parking across the street.

Room Tip: Elevator is at one end; ask for a room at the far end (but, really, the tone of the elevator was not...

Nice, new, clean. Located in Hokeyville, so right in the heart of things. Beds are comfortable. Had a little trouble with the Internet on our 2 nd day. No breakfast, just granola bars and coffee....we should have read the details more thoroughly regarding that. We would recommend this hotel.

This was the first time i actually stayed here even though i have visited friends staying here. It was amazing! The rooms were nice, the hotel was quiet, the staff had everything ready to go upon checking in and checking out. You also can't beat the location, there is no other hotel more perfectly located next to downtown Blacksburg and Virginia Tech.

Room Tip: Make sure you book early, with only 30 something rooms, it fills up fast.

Comfortable, homey accommodations, close to where all the "action" is, walking distance to everything, nicely laid out rooms, reasonably priced, exceptional staff. Rooms are laid out suite-like with small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, iron and ironing board. Everything is exceptionally clean. Noise from hallway is minimal inside room. Bathroom is small but adequate. Two TVs per room. Nice to have a separate sitting area from the bedroom area. Mattresses are very nice. Couldn't ask for more.
