“Wonderful experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2011

I stayed at The Main Street Inn with my 17 year old son last month when we visited VA Tech. I wish more hotels had a similar set-up. The separation of the bedroom from the "living area" is brilliant...and the PERFECT set-up when traveling with family members. Clean bathroom, very comfortable bed, and quiet, yet close to everything. The front desk staff was warm and incredibly helpful, and unless you want or need a fitness center or pool, or prefer a larger impersonal hotel chain, this is the perfect place to stay.

This is a nice, new hotel that couldn't be in a better location close to the Virginia Tech campus and town of Blacksburg. Front desk staff was very attentive, and morning coffee and snacks were a nice touch. Room layout was a bit weird (no bathtub) with bathroom in middle of room dividing the sleeping and "living" areas, but not a problem. Living area was a bit dark, could have used more lighting. Bed was comfortable. Fridge and microwave in room, too. Only problem was the frat boys who checked in the second night I was there and partied in the hall for several hours. Only after repeated calls to the front desk did they quiet down some. The hotel needs to be more stringent and insist that it is not a college dorm-- those guys should have been thrown out.

Our family stayed in one of the suites during our visit to Va Tech. We loved the location - close walk to the school, places to eat, local shops. Our room was clean and quiet, the on-site parking was very convenient, and the staff was helpful and pleasant. The only drawback was the very small sitting room (when using the sleep sofa), and the extremely uncomfortable sleep sofa as a bed. In the middle of the night, we ended up putting the sleep sofa mattress directly on the floor. We will probably stay there again, but will need to get 2 rooms (all rooms are suites, but only the beds were comfortable). I'd recommend this hotel to others with a caveat about the sofa if they are traveling with kids.

You cannot beat this location for going downtown to all the bars and restaurants. The room I got was a nice suite with a living room (with a couch, a few chairs, a flat screen TV) and a bedroom with a comfortable queen bed an a flat screen TV. The furnishings were pretty nice. The only thing I noticed was some scuff marks on the walls from suitcases rolling around.

There is no breakfast here, but they have nice coffee in the lobby and granola bars in the morning, as well as biscotti.

This was my first stay at the Main Street Inn. I was with my teenage daughter who was visiting Virginia Tech. The Inn is centrally located in the main part of town where restaurants are within walking distance. The staff at the front desk were great, and lobby had a nice feel to it. The room was nice with a very comfortable bed. The only downside was that the walls were pretty thin. I had to ask the neighboring room to turn down their TV as we could hear the conversation from the program they were watching, and it made sleeping more difficult.
