“Virginia hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This was our last stop before we departed for home (UK). What an interesting place, the mansion house was built in 1816 and survived the civil war. The owner Ruth Pritchard( 9th generation) was delightful, and had many historic stories to tell. The house was steeped in history and architecturally was fascinating. The location was superb in rolling Virginia countryside but the hospitality from Ruth could not be better. Breakfast was excellent and I highly recommend this establishment.

“wonderful place, lovely people!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

I happen to have just stayed at the Smithfield farm, it was a quick getaway, just me and my husband, for a friend's wedding. It was amazing. The breakfast was fine dining style - for real - with all local products and so well presented I photographed the dish every morning! The rooms are super spacious and although mine had the bathroom across the hall I never felt like I didn't have privacy, it was just fine. It had a big and super clean bath tub, other than the regular shower. The bed was super comfortable and we slept really well every night. The inn keeper, Ruth, is a delightful person and you can see she really likes to take care of her guests, she was always super kind and we really enjoyed chatting with her over breakfast. We became fans of the farm and the area - which is lovely too. I think it is also nice for those who are travelling with children, lots of outside space for running and playing, the river shenandoah is very near and the little town of berryville is cute. We want to go back there sometime for sure! We've been to many bed&breakfasts around the world and this one is in a special league for us! We recomend it highly!

Room Tip: all rooms are very quiet , they have a little apartment in the basement that is so charming for a fa...

“Wonderful Anniversary Getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We had a wonderful anniversary getaway at Smithfield Farm. Ruth is a fantastic hostess. The breakfasts are unbelievable. Our room was well appointed with everything we needed. Nice location not too far outside of Berryville (great for stargazing after dark). The manor house was lovingly restored and you'll feel right at home. It's an easy drive to several wineries, or out to Winchester or Harpers Ferry for sightseeing.

Room Tip: The Wellford Room is located in the front of the house over the dining room. Nice view looking out a...

“lovely B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

we went to Smithfield Farm B&B for my birthday 8/4 and we had a lovely experience. The property and room were gorgeous, the bed and linens were super comfy, and the breakfast was delicious. Ruth is a really gracious host and has really neat stories. We live in DC and it was a really quick trip out there but you feel like you are in an other world for the day. there are lots of wineries in the area and apparently they sell their products at most of the farmers' markets in the DC area. I will definitely recommend to all my friends looking for a nice weekend getaway.

“Fantastic b&b on a working farm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We just returned from our first visit at Smithfield B&B, and it definitely won't be our last. Ruth is a welcoming and helpful innkeeper. The property is large and gorgeous. We did a short hike around the farm, took a nap in a hammock, grilled dinner outside, and sat by a lotus pond. And on our way home, we stopped by the farm store to stock up on grass-fed, pasture-raised meat for our freezer! The breakfast was delicious and sumptuous, made almost entirely from local ingredients. The location of this B&B is also perfect, whether for small town charm and antiquing in nearby Berryville or tours at several area wineries. (Whatever you do, don't miss out on a visit to Catoctin Creek Distillery for some exceptional rye and gin!)
