“Loved the White House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2008

My husband and I took our two boys ( ages 14 and 11) on a mini-vacation over the holidays to the Mt. Snow area in Vermont. We stayed at the White House of Wilmington and loved every minute of it. It's close to Mt. Snow, the sleigh rides, and has tubing and trails on site. We even took a quick swim in the indoor pool. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included with our stay and it was outstanding. The common rooms were very welcoming and inviting. We had indeed picked the very best place to stay in the area.

The White House of Wilmington not only has a wonderful ambiance, but great value too. The food is excellent and the service superb. We frequent the Inn every week because we live locally and the Inn keeper along with his staff are always accomodating and most pleasant to be around. It is a home away from home destination for anyone who wishes to be treated like family and friends.

Went for fall foliage and can't wait to get back! The pictures on the hotel's website don't look exactly like the rooms- most are larger than depicted! We arrived in the wee hours of the morning. They left the front door unlocked for us and there was an envelope waiting on a chair with my name in it with a little welcome note and the key to our room. We stayed in the main inn.

The place is apparently haunted, but we didn't see or hear anything- although we would have welcomed it. Ask to see the hidden staircase and 6 ft safe in the basement.

Our room was right above the kitchen and we were awakened by kitchen noises in the a.m. I think only one room is above the kitchen- and we had it, because we booked very last minute. We peeked at some of the fireplace rooms, and they are fabulous! Go for one of those or a bigger room than the standard queen.

They have a common room with a huge cozy fireplace, so if your room doesn't have one, that'll do.

The breakfast was immortal. They had blueberry bread pudding that was so amazing! The best part of the stay was the breakfast.

The staff person that was there in the late morning was surfing the internet and not helpful in giving advice of places to see, but luckily I had researched festivals prior to our arrival. I recommend going to Adam's Farm and feeding the animals- at any age, that's just fun. Can't wait to go back when its snowing and take a sleigh ride!

We stayed @ the White House for three days and enjoyed the area during late September. The house itself is quite interesting, with it's historical aspect. The common rooms are lovely with lots of photographs of the previous owners and the many weddings/parties that take place there. The owners and staff were friendly and helpful especially when my husband HAD to check on his business/e-mail one night and the Inn's guest computer was "down". He was able to sit in the office and check on things back home for as long as he needed. THANK YOU!.
The main house rooms are upstairs and without phone/TV/A/C.
If it's warm you will definetely need the fan thats provided. Our bathroom was very small along with the towels but one must remember this home was built cir. 1915 and the owners are maintaining its "charming" features. There is a vast basement level, with TV and small indoor pool/sauna but it was rather damp/cold to sit down there for very long and the fireplaces were not in operation for the season yet. Breakfast/dinner were enjoyable with a young waitstaff. You can easily run thru the breakfast on an extended stay of 3-4 days. The Inn was not very busy @ the time of our stay, yet Fall Foliage prices were in effect.
I would think that this Inn would be running at full-tilt during the winter months and probably a better choice to visit at that time .
Wilmington, VT's location make it ideal for day trips to to NY, MA, or NH.

Do you know when life just becomes to hectic and you just need to get away? We always run to the White House. We have been going there for 15 years, it feels like our second home. The inn itself is looking better than ever, the staff is always friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are always clean and inviting,we always feel very comfortable there. The restuarant is fabulous for dinner, you couldn't ask for better food or service. All and all we have never looked for any where else to stay when we visit Vt, we've actually started to bring our family back with us (and we all know how hard family is to please). Out of 14 of us no one had any complaints( that's a miracle in itself). So the next time your looking for a little slice of heaven I strongly recommend staying at the White House Inn of Wilmington VT.

The Inn is large, on a scenic hilltop and is beautiful. The room do not have air conditioning and the portable fans did not provide enough cool air to sleep comfortably.

Our 1st experience was 7 years ago for a family w/e getaway. Couldnt have been more perfect w/snow falling ever so beautiful. We were 5 families & had the cottage to ourselves. Took a sleigh ride at a near by farm. We just fell in love w/the Inn and the people there.

A year later, we went back for a romantic w/e and couldnt get enough,. The staff is just so professional, warm and friendly. We had a room w/ a beautiful fireplace...full country breakfast included in the am.

Two years ago,, we invited the family back and had a beautiful wedding. Our guest are still talking about it..say its the best wedding they've ever been too. With the help of the owner, Adam, and his suggestions, it was breath taking, smooth, and not a worry in the world. Ive never seen a place that has a staff that is so in control, yet warm and inviting. The town of Wilmington itself, is a place I would love to retire to. Visit Wilmington anytime of the year, see the town, meet the people, and most of all, stay at the White House Inn, any time of the year
