“Once bitten twice shy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2010

Hosts were very nice and location is convenient... However, we were bitten by some bugs. Not sure if they were bed bugs, but we were attacked pretty badly. Hosts changed our room and that nights sleep was uneventful.

I stayed at the Gray Ghost Inn for a President's Day Ski weekend with my kids, who are age 12 and 10. As soon as we walked into the lobby we were greeted warmly by one of the owners, Carina. Our room was just perfect -- a queen size bed for me and bunk beds for the boys. The room is small and has no t.v., but this turned out to be the best part of our stay as it encouraged us to mingle in the great room with other guests. We sat around the fireplace, sipping wine (brought by guests), and playing games with the kids. The atmosphere was so lively and kid-friendly. My kids ended up downstairs in the game room, where they have a pool table, foos ball, pinball and a television set. My kids always wondered what people did before they had internet....and now they know! The stay included a full breakfast served each morning which was just perfect to get our ski day started. If you have kids and are looking for a quaint, friendly place to stay this is a wonderful option.

This is a little late, but as it is said, better late than never. I figured I would share for those riding enthusiasts who are anxiously awaiting riding season in this cold winter.

We visited the Gray Ghost in July of 2009, with over 60 other riding enthusiasts. Initially, I was a tad reluctant to stay at a “Bed and Breakfast”. When we vacation, we prefer hotels with outstanding amenities. We do downgrade the amenity factor when we ride simply because we tour so often. Bottomline, I just don't like Bed and Breakfasts.

However, the Gray Ghost Inn is not your typical antique and doily decorated bed and breakfast. It is a comfortable place to stay for both families during the skiing season and riding enthusiasts during riding season. In fact, the owners, both riding enthusiasts, advertise The Gray Ghost Inn as a “Biker Residence.” Last but not least, because the owners are parents of three children, it is also extremely child friendly.

There are 26 rooms of various sizes. Most have two queen beds and bunk beds. When reserving, I would suggest requesting a bigger room on the third floor. Also, if you are allergic to down, please let them know when booking. Surprisingly, we discovered down pillows! All rooms have their own bathroom. The bathrooms come equipped with the usual, minus a hair dryer, but I am sure if you needed one, you could borrow from the owners. Body gel and shampoo dispensers can be found in the bathroom, making it convenient for riders. That’s less stuff to pack. There is a heated pool; hot tub; large front porch with rocking chairs; a large furnished deck; a campfire area; a game room with pool, ping pong and a flat screen television; and a large dining room. The best part of The Gray Ghost is its keeping/dining room. The Inn provides a fridge, microwave, coolers, ice maker and appropriate sized drink glasses. Guests are invited to stow their beverages of choice in the fridge. There is a 7 Eleven within walking distance that sells adult beverages. Since we firmly believe when the kick stands are down, we don't imbide, it was outstanding to enjoy an adult beverage when the kick stands were up. It was even better to have a place to stow and share it. There is one thing I would suggest though, if there is any leftover, you can’t take it on the ride home, so you pay it forward, and leave it for the next group of bikers.

At most B and B’s I have been to, breakfast was a preset buffet menu. However, at the Gray Ghost, you get to choose, and it is made to order. On one day, you are offered your juice of choice, pancakes, blueberry or plain, eggs any style, bacon, sausage and toast. On day two, french toast replaces the pancakes. You can have whatever you want, and it arrives hot and fresh. Since the Gray Ghost is part of the Farm Fresh Network, a program in which the chefs of the area only use organically grown local ingredients, everything seemed to taste better. Finally, Magnus, the owner, does a large group dinner at an additional cost of around $20 per person. It included tossed salad with Wasabe dressing, BBQ chicken breast, ribs, and baked potato wedges. Everything was delicious.

If the large group dinner doesn’t interest you, a few restaurants(some rather pricey) are just a short walk away. Additionally, a local pizza joint served this Philly girl the best roast beef sub(It’s a hoagie for crying out loud.)she has had in a while.

While The Gray Ghost Inn won’t be in any Martha Stewart guidebook, and it is not the kind of place I would like to go for a romantic weekend, it is clean and comfortable. It does have has a certain charm. The owners are warm and welcoming. The three black labs beg for a belly rub, and the chickens walk around looking for handouts. A stay at the Gray Ghost is like a stay at the home of a family member. I would highly recommend staying here.

Many thanks to Magnus and Carina for making our riding club feel right at home. Visiting Backroads Magazines 2007 Destination of the Year was a true pleasure. We can't wait to return!

The inn is in a great location, about 2 minutes from the base of Mt. Snow. The breakfast is good and the hosts are nice.

But...I reserved a room with 3 beds for 1 adult and 2 kids (the price was for 2 adults). When we got to the room there were 2 beds (1 queen and 1 twin). When I expressed my disappointment, the manager stated: "Sorry about the bait and switch, but we had a family of 5 and we had to give them your room." That certainly did not make me feel like an appreciated guest!

Magnus and Carina couldn't be any better hosts. the in is clean, the food excellent, the rooms perfect. Plenty of parking, easy to get to, hot tub all year round and a pool in the summer.

We have booked again in June for a motorcycle weekend away. The Inn is motorcycle friendly, and suppleis towels and wash area for your bikes as well.

I highly suggest you stay at the Gray Ghost if you ever have the chance.

We stayed on a Friday to sunday found this place to be very comfortable and the hosts were great. They cater to motorcyle clubs in the Summer months and have some great rides for them to take. we felt like they were old friends and that this was your place also, can't wait to go back in the summer time.

We stayed here for one night as we made our way from Boston to Stowe. It was our first B&B on our tour of New England and at the time we thought it was very nice. It has a swimming pool, hot tub and puppy to play with, the inn keepers were friendly and the room clean. However on reflection after staying in some very charming B&B's during the course of our trip my only criticism would be the lack of character and the slightly dated look of the rooms. Overall though our stay was enjoyable and I would return.
