The Mount Snow ski resort area seemingly abounds with lodgings; that may be so, yet finding something suitable at a reasonable price and in high summer proved a major task for us. As luck would have it, we stopped by this Inn at the end of a fruitless search; there were some people lounging poolside while we headed for the entrance. Shortly one of them - the owner, Mr Kruszewski - caught up with us at the reception desk. Although he had just disposed of a capacity crowd who had spent a long (and merry) weekend there and seemingly there was nothing ready for new arrivals that Sunday night, he chatted with us for a while before he warned us that we would need to wait some 20 minutes so that his staff can clean a room for us. Having looked at some of the rooms, we happily agreed.
Instead of staying a couple of nights, the next day we thoughtfully adjusted our plans, and left after a week. The place has its peculiar charm, with picturesque interior decoration; the pool was on hand, so was jacuzzi, and a pretty good hard-surface tennis court as well. In the basement there were additional facilities but I think we only played table tennis there. The restaurant is cozy, what with piped Chopin, and the Polish cuisine we enjoyed heartily - breakfasts worth every penny and dinners worth every dollar.
The room was rather small for four people but we hardly ever noticed. There was so much else to do and places to go to that minor shortcomings were not even commented on. From the window we could see the brook at the back, and could easily step out and sit on the benches in blessed tranquillity. Yet it was not just the surroundings or facilities: we were in good company with the owner and his staff. Their friendliness was unsurpassed, and we were given valuable advice on what to see and where to go.
There was no wireless internet but one can drive two minutes up the road to Mount Snow proper, pull up, remain seated, turn on the laptop, and get on the web just like that. Laundromat is just as far, although in the opposite direction down Route 100, so is a 7-11 store and also a cinema (which we failed to visit despite all the good intentions). Be warned: time runs fast at this place.
