“Best breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

My birthday girl daughter and I had a late breakfast -- not brunch. The menu is fulsome and the quality of the offerings makes it tricky to decide For some reason, I had a yen for the corned beef hash and poached eggs -- and English muffins and divine potatoes. After determining that the hash is made in-house and that it would be crispy, we both ordered it. Fabulous. I have had the pancake stack when I was last in Waitsfield -- and have a photo of my grandson's beatific face as he contemplated the stack. It is worth the trip, which is saying a lot as I travel from New York!

“5-star food + 10-star service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2014

Sunday-morning breakfast, our first time at Elusive Moose, was outstanding. The regular menu had wide choices, plus they had 4 breakfast specials and brunchy cocktails. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and answered our questions about the pork sausage and corned beef by naming them among a dozen or more ingredients made in-house. We were impressed by both her knowledge and pride in the food she was serving. We were not surprised that our three different dishes, including the sausage and corned beef, were delicious. The service was far beyond exceptional, particularly when one companion asked an allergy-related question about the nuts in the souffle. Our server had the answer but immediately and without being asked to do so, said "let me double-check." Then the chef emerged, offering to make the dish without nuts if the diner wished. We were again impressed. Yet another example of outstanding service was that of the lovely woman who presented the sorbet mimosa. She said, "here's your little sip of morning sunshine," presenting the champagne glass with the sorbet to the diner, and then poured a little from a mini bottle of Prosecco. She waited for a tasting, offered us good wishes for a lovely day, and left the bottle. Five-star food, ten-star service!

“Holy Moose!”

What a terrific new addition to the Waitsfield area. We had lunch and dinner at this place and were impressed each time with the food! The owner made himself available and was very gracious.

“Excellent bar service, wonderful meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

We chose to sit at the bar and we're glad we did. Mel, the bartender, was seasoned and a laugh and a half. The special burger (the chef mixed ground beef and bacon himself) was insane. The bread pudding was simple, yet perfect. The prime rib was perfectly cooked. And the maple bourbon manhattan? Yes indeed.

“Real Food: Fresh, Different, Great Flavors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

This delightful pub/restaurant opened in February 2014 serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Like all new ventures, it took a few weeks to iron out the kinks but from Day One, it was clear that the Chef was a true gem - cooking and creating enticing dishes instead of reheating food generated from the mass of food suppliers.

Our last visit during Vermont Restaurant Week (April 25 to May 3) was simply amazing and provided my husband and I with one of the best local dining experiences we've had and there are some really good options in the Mad River Valley. The mushroom soup was incredible and the seven ingredient salad has a dressing that should be bottled and sold as it complemented the freshness of the vegetables perfectly. The meat loaf which has been on the menu since they opened is another exceptional dish and the vegetable schnitzel (a special for restaurant week) was different and delicious. Both of us opted for dessert, although we really did not need it and enjoyed Apple Strudel and Chocolate Moose: house-made and to die for.

The restaurant does not take reservations but so far we've never had a problem getting in. There are plenty of really good local beers and excellent wines to support the lunch and dinner menus. Marty and Ginger, the owners, really do care about your experience and are slowly but surely building a team of wait-staff who share their passion. Service has been a little hit and miss in these early weeks but the food more than makes up for any slight delays.
