Wow, I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay at the Yellow Farmhouse Inn. On the day we were set to arrive, we got stuck in some terrible traffic on the way up from Boston and ended up arriving much later than we anticipated. We called the owners, Mike and Sandra, to let them know that we would be arriving late, and they said that would not be a problem. When we finally got there (around 9:00 p.m.), we were greeted by Mike, who gave us a very brief tour, while offering us fresh baked cookies and hot chocolate. The Inn was lovely, and everything an Inn should be. Downstairs has a more rustic feel to is, with hardwood floors, dim lights, and a warm fireplace. Our room, on the other hand, had a different feel - it was bright, crisp and clean. We used the oversized jacuzzi tub during both nights of our stay (crucial when you're skiing two days in a row), and we came back from our first day of skiing to find our bed freshly made.
The breakfast each morning was unbelievably delicious. From baked apple crumble, to banana stuffed french toast, to cheesy omelets - everything was excellently prepared. Breakfast is held in the dining area, and it affords a great opportunity to mingle with other guests (should you so desire). We met another couple who recommended snowshoeing - something we plan to try on our next trip.
Everything was clean and homey. Guests take their shoes off in the entry hall, so there is no mud, or heavy footsteps around the Inn. Mike is very knowledgeable about things to do around town, but was not the least offended when we told him we planned to hit the grocery store and stay in on one of our night's stays. Other couples opted to sip wine or read books by the fireplace. Everyone there was quite, respectful and friendly.
I felt completely relaxed during my stay, which is exactly the kind of getaway I was looking for. I plan to go back next year.
