“A warm and welcoming Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

My wife and I stayed a few days at the Inn for the second time this year, and were just as happy as the first time. The reason we chose to stay in Waitsfield is its proximity to Sugarbush (soaring and skiing). Alison and Phill have been running the Inn almost 10 years, and everything is smooth as silk. Breakfasts are very good, the rooms comfortable, but above all, Alison and Phil create a warm, welcoming and good-humored atmosphere, which makes one feel at home. They are also incredibly helpful with any kind of information one might need. I thoroughly recommend Tucker Hill Inn.

Room Tip: Room # 4 is excellent

My Girlfriend and I recently stayed at the Tucker Hill Inn. We reserved the Innkeepers Suite and were very pleasantly surprised. We had the whole bottom floor to ourselves. The room was reasonably priced and very well furnished, comfortable, and just an experience worth sharing. The amenities were just what we would expect from a suite. And the fireplace and surrounding furnishings made for a very romantic B&B experience. The Inn's location was ideal being set back on a small offshoot road away from the main route 100, but close enough (only half mile away) to be near the town amenities of Waitsfield. There were plenty of nice restaurants and stores in the town to keep you occupied with what you would desire to find in this hidden town in Vermont besides driving around and hiking to gaze at the amazing fall colors of autumn. What even made the experience even more special were the Innkeepers Phil and Allison themselves. They both were very warm, friendly, and upbeat. They were very knowledgeable of the areas attractions, the nearby restaurants, and even some other unique findings further away. Their recommended "Hen of the Wood" restaurant was a unique and not to be missed dining experience. Thanks Phil, Allison for that one :). Oh, and only one thing to say about the breakfast at the Inn. Allison served up great tasting breakfast dishes that made getting up early a pleasure. One last thing, Phil and Allison went one extra step by recommending a Lobster Shack to stop at on our drive to Boston through New Hampshire. We munched out on great Maine Lobster at a discount price. Thanks for everything Phil and Allison. Sincerely Steven and Amy

Room Tip: Choose the Innkeepers Suite. It is worth the money--hands down!!!

The omens were good from the outset of our 2 night stay which coincided with our 35th wedding anniversary when we were shown to our room "Innsbruck" which -remarkably-was the location in Austria where we spent our honeymoon! The room and sitting area was spacious and we had no heating issues given we were there in September. As others have mentioned some puzzling rules in relation to alcohol were set out in a notice in the room which we assumed were imposed on the establishment by Vermont state rules (?) but as we had been given a bottle of wine by relatives to enjoy on our anniversary we did not allow this strange piece of red tape to cramp our style...Breakfasts on both mornings were excellent including on hot dish per day. Both Allison and Phill were very attentive and gave good advice on local attractions and restaurants.Other good points were the availabilty of a fridge, earplugs(but not needed !)etc. We would be delighted to return to Tucker's Inn.

All in all this is a nice B&B. We, family of four, stayed in the Mammouth Suite. First thing our daughter noticed was the earplugs on the bedside tables, "this is not a good sign." we stayed during the summer so heating pipes were not an issue - but in the winter? The Mammouth Suite potentially has a nice balcony off the master BR but there is a sign on the door discouraging one from opening it (falling ice dangers - presumably not relevant in the summer so take the sign down) and no chairs on the balcony. Unfortunately the current innkeepers have closed the pub. Not a big detraction in the summer but we stayed here in the winter years ago and the pub was a great place to unwind after skiing. The inn posts a convoluted set of rules about alcohol: one is not supposed to bring in their own, must purchase from the inn, the inn sells only beer and wine, and the inn stops selling their beer and wine at 6:00pm. What?? I am on vacation here. I may want a glass of wine but may not know I will want it until after 6:0pm and I may not want the overpriced mediocre wine the inn is selling.

So all in all, OK trip. You will likely not have a bad stay - grounds are nice, breakfast good, nice tennis courts - but don't expect to be wowed and think twice about coming in the winter.

Thank you for taking the time to review. It’s always nice to hear from guests that are returning from a visit years ago. Many years ago, we ourselves stayed at the Inn several times, when it was mainly focused on restaurant and bar business. We have chosen to concentrate on the B&B side and wish to offer a quieter more relaxing stay, hence we no longer offer a bar service, except when the Inn is booked for a function. We do offer beer and wine sales, which is available 24 hours, based on a “help yourself” honor system and we are sorry to learn that this guest was not made aware of this service during their stay. We do place a bottle of wine in all rooms for the convenience and enjoyment of our guests, which is priced, including the 10% VT state tax at $20 per bottle. The wine has a wine spectator rating of 87 and is priced significantly under what we have paid at local restaurants.

We got the idea to place earplugs in all rooms from a 5-star hotel we stayed at in London a couple of years ago. We thought it was novel and we often receive the gratitude of guests at breakfast that enjoyed a peaceful nights sleep, having not been woken by the snoring from their sleeping partner.

We enjoyed our stay in the Innkeeper's Suite on a busy summer weekend. Plus side was the privacy and comfort of the room. It included a fridge, which was an unexpected bonus. Loved the fact that there were loads of towels. There were some cleanliness issues, so agree another reviewer - not for everyone. Borderline for me. Also there was no way to get any fresh air in this basement room room without opening the door. Windows were all sealed, and no ac. - surprising, but we did appreciate our private outside entrance. Breakfast was continental style with one hot dish served. Great fresh fruit salad, coffee bad one day, good the next. I would recommend adding toast, rolls, hard boiled eggs, or other options to the sweet breads and muffins, fruit, yogurt and juice. Overall we were glad to be there, enjoyed the grounds, the hummingbirds, the flowers and ourselves!

We thank this reviewer for their complementary comments and generally positive review. It would have been nice to be able to discuss some of the other comments directly with the reviewer during their visit, so that we could had resolved them there and then. For example, hard-boiled eggs and toast are always available upon request. The Innkeepers Suite is located in the lower level of the Inn; it is large and spacious taking up one whole end of the Inn. Due to it’s location, the room temperature rarely gets above 70 degrees, thereby making an air-conditioner ineffective (we had previously had one in the room). We have instead installed a de-humidifier to increase the comfort level during the summer months. The wall of windows, along one whole side of the room, can be opened upon request, however we do not recommend it, due the increase in humidity this would cause. It’s great to learn that overall they had an enjoyable stay.

Allison and Phill are wonderful, warm, and welcoming hosts. The hotel came with a sweet welcome basket, of which my fiance and I quickly opened the wine and enjoyed it on the beautiful grounds.

Mornings began with a delicious breakfast. We are still talking about how delicious the walnut french toast tasted!

Allison and Phill were knowledgeable about the area, provided us with maps and guidance regarding local hikes & restaurants. We would come back in a heartbeat!

We stayed in the Mammoth Suite, ideally suited for families and near the breakfast room. Inn is well situated near both skiing and hiking in the Mad River Valley, Tucker Inn is highly attractive and well run. Allison and Phil provide a warm welcome and are attentive to specific needs. The morning breakfast is both ample and tasteful. Highly recommended.
