This was the third time we have stayed at the Stow Inn. The first two times we had a wonderful experience. It's a great location and a charming setting. Our most recent stay was somewhat different, which was unfortunate. Their morning contenental breakfast, which according to the description in the in-room book, was suppose to be complimentary, however, when we went down for breakfast the first morning, they we charging $5. We paid the $5 and when I spoke to the General Manager after, she said she could not take the charge off the room bill, but could give us a free voucher for the next, and only the next morning. Two of our friend did order a hot breakfast off the menu that morning, paying an additional $5 but could only eat half of it. We could have found more flavorful food at McDonalds. I complained about the food to the General Manager also, and a guy, who I think was the restaurant manager, chimed in and said they had a new cook. Also, they did not clean the room after the first night, eventhough we vacated the room at 10:00am. The following two mornings, they did pull the comforter flat on the bed but nothing else. In the main livingroom, the gas fireplace (fake wood) insert rarely stayed on for more than 10 mins (kept having to restart it, and our drink glasses from the prior night were usually still they the next day. Generally, there just seemed to be a lack of attention to detail and friendly staff that was there before. The Stown Inn has the potential to be the premier place to stay and eat in Stowe, but the lack-luster service and one-star restaurant (it was empty for dinner every night) indicates it has a long way to go. Although I am rooting for it's resurgence, we will find another place to stay the next time we are visiting the great town of Stowe.

Thank you for writing your review, I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your experience. With regards to the continental breakfast, we have recently increased the options available for the continental, which unfortunately means that we have had to start charging. The information section in your book should have been removed and was unfortunately overlooked. As the restaurant states breakfast is $5.00 upon entry, the waiting staff were unaware that the information in the room said otherwise and so charged you. They would have happily helped if you mentioned it to them at the time. When you came and spoke to me about the charge, I mentioned that any refunds have to go through our corporate office and if you wanted a refund I would be able to phone them, however as a quicker solution I could offer you a complimentary breakfast for the following day as the page should have been updated in your book. I offered all three rooms a complimentary breakfast and you said you would check with the others to see if that was acceptable. As you didn't come and mention that you would really prefer the refund, I thought that you were satisfied with this outcome and am very sorry that you were not. I am also sorry that your friends were disappointed with the food and as I mentioned at the time, the waiting staff would have been more than happy to take that off the bill for you if you let them know when you are unhappy. We strive to ensure that our guests are happy at all times and I know that they will always help when they are aware food is not at the standard expected. Having a new chef should not impact our quality of food and we have taken steps to ensure that this doesn't happen again. With regards to the cleaning, I must apologise and this is something I have addressed with the staff. We are a green hotel and as such do not usually change sheets for guests staying more than one night unless requested. We have now reviewed this and will in the future be offering the option of changing the sheets. We would love to be able to reinstate our good name with yourselves and welcome you back to the inn.
