“The room was the high point”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2005

Although it is very comfortable and staffed by welcoming people, I was a little disappointed in this much-praised inn. No complaints about the room, which was spacious, handsome, well equipped, and very comfortable. And no complaints about the food, either. The bountiful, really delicious breakfast buffet is a bargain, whether you choose the full spread or the cheaper cold buffet. Dinner in the Whip restaurant was good, although the service was uncommonly slow. So there's a lot to like here. But the location is noisy, with many, many big trucks passing right in front of the building all day long and well into the night. And Lower Stowe Village is pretty modest in its attractions and diversions. Not only the athletic activities, but the nicer shops, most of the restaurants, the movie theaters, etc., are some distance away. The views from the inn are not special in any way. Most of all, I was disappointed by how drab and dreary the main floor public rooms are: small, dark, stale, and not very welcoming. The front porch, which is potentially an attraction, is almost unusable because of the noise and smells from the traffic. So yes, this is a nice place, especially the rooms and the service. But it isn't as restful, as beautiful, or as stimulating as I had thought it would be.

Great location on Main Street in Stowe village. Many types of accommodations. The Whip Restaurant and Bar are located on premises. Excellent food and service. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and short drive to Trapp Family lodge, hiking, paved recreation path that runs for miles and is great for biking, walking, skating and enjoying wonderful scenery. Excellent movie theater and several spas are available with Top Notch and Stowe Flake spas being the largest and most popular. Stowe offers great options for recreation in all seasons. Winter skiing is excellent now and the Stowe Mountain resort is expanding to offer even better skiing, lodging and first class amenities for all. Burlington-home to the University of Vermont - is a approximately a 40 minute drive and has a modern international airport, great shopping and restaurants on Church Street pedestrian mall, entertainment and Lake Champlain for swimming, fishing and boating. Montreal is a 2 hour drive from Stowe. Many pet-friendly resorts, too. Book early for foliage season - a real treat in the Green Mountains.

We stayed in the club house suite with a fireplace and jaccuzi tub. It was a nice room with cathedral ceiling and it also was connected to the pool areas which as really nice. The breakfast at the hotel is great---it was a little pricy but the food and service are excellent. The afternoon complimentary tea/coffee, lemonade and cookies are great. The pool is wonderful because it is warm. The resort was quiet and my 14 yr old and husband played ping pong daily by the pool and air hockey in the game room. The bike path in Stowe is excellent even if you only like mild bike riding and the bike rentals are nearby. We stayed at a discounted rate under our Entertainment card and it was an excellent value. Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to the Stowe area because it is close to everything and yet still a quaint little town to relax and enjoy the area.
